Christian Weddings

Good books?

Sooo, I just finished finals this afternoon (and I can't begin to explain how excited I am). But I'm already looking for something to occupy my brain.

Have any of you ladies read any good books recently? What about pre-marital books? I guess I really like mystery novels and the occasional chick feel-good book. So, throw them out there. :)

I can't even think about reading anything until this wedding is over, haha.  I did get the C. S. Lewis Signature Classics for Christmas from FMIL, so I'll be reading that after the wedding, especially since FI and I have decided not to get cable TV, lol.  It has Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Abolition of Man, The Great Divorce, The Problem of Pain, Miracles, and A Grief Observed.  I'm super excited!  I figure that will take me a while to finish.

On my Kindle app on my phone I downloaded the free version of Sheet Music and read that, which is a good pre-marital book.  I also reread Pride and Prejudice because it was free and I LOVE that book, haha.

Not necessarily pre-marital books, but I think Captivating and Wild at Heart for essential to read, for both guys and girls. I also think "Men are Like Waffles, Women are Like Spaghetti" really shines a light on the differences between us and it really helps me understand FI, and men in general, better!

For extra-curricular reading, I love love LOVE "The Scent of Rain and Lightning", it is so good, a mystery and it kept me on my seat the whole time. My favorite book. The same author wrote "The Virgin of Small Plains" and it was also extremely good. For fun chick lit, "Sweet Misfortune" is really cute, and I believe the author may be Christian. He wrote another book called "Paper Bag Christmas", which while out of season, is an absolute MUST read. I read it two Christmas's ago and will probably read it every year now, I sob like a baby when I read it, SO good.

Have you read the Narnia series? Those are always a good (easy and quick, too!) read!

Oh man, I LOVE the Narnia series!  I have a boxed set sitting on my shelf right now, lol.  i wrote my senior (in high school) term paper on biblical parallels in TLTW&TW.  The teacher told me it was the best paper he had ever read.  Nice, haha.

I have read the Narnia series and almost all of the books sessions listed in her C.S. Lewis list. I'm a big C.S. Lewis fan. :)

I've been thinking about Sheet Music. I'll see if I can get it on my phone! Thanks, sessions!

I put those on my list, Rachel. I'm going to start with what I can find at the libraries around here (selection is limited) and then buy on Amazon as I go.

Pre-Marital: Sheet Music, Love & Respect, Men Are Like Waffles- Women Are Like Spaghetti, For Women Only, Every Woman's Marriage, Cracking the Communication Code, God on Sex

If you like historical fiction, especially biblical/early church era, I LOVE the "Mark of the Lion" series by Francine Rivers-Voice in the Wind, An Echo in the Darkness, and As Sure as the Dawn. (http://www.francinerivers.com/books/series/mark-lion)

I LOVE Francine Rivers also.  I don't have finals until next week, so no free reading for me yet.
If you can get FI involved in the reading, 10 Great Dates Before You Say "I Do" is great, just good conversation starters.

A GREAT book is The Church Ladies by Lisa Samson (? I think).  It's one of my favorite Christian books ever because it's so...real.  It addresses the insecurities that so many of us feel.  For a fictional work, it sure does hit a lot of truths!

One of my favorit books is Hadassah: One Night With the King. It's by Tom Tenney and is about Queen Esther.

I also love most of the books by Kristin Hannah and Jodi Picult.

There's also a book I read recently by L.A. Kelly. I believe it's called Tahn. Very good. I can't wait to get the other 2 in the series.  Louis McMaster Bujold is another good author.

    I loved The Red Tent!

For premarital, I really liked The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman.  FI and I read it a while ago, and on Monday at our first pre-marital couseling session the Rev. recommended it to us. :P

I love so many of these!!
Gary Chapman has another one called Things I Wish I Knew Before I Got Married. It is funny and very informative at the same time. You also get 5 love languages and languages of apology as topics of two of the chapters.
Along with the Mark of the Lion series (LOVE) Francine Rivers has a great one called Redeeming Love, trust me through the first 100 pages
