Christian Weddings

Orthodox Christian Board?

Hello...

Might it be possible to get an 'Orthodox Christian Weddings' board set up? There are some very unique considerations and traditions for those of us who are Orthodox Christian.  While I realize we are a minority in the U.S., we are neither Catholic nor Protestant and represent a wide array of cultural (Serbian, Antiochian, Greek, Russian, Romanian, etc.) and religious considerations.

It would be very helpful to have a board where we can quickly get in contact with others of the same faith rather than having to hunt through the other boards to find posts we are best-suited to reply to.

Please and Thank you!

I can forward it on to the powers that be, but just getting this board was a long time coming.  The Christian Wedding board has only been around a little over a month, so we're brand new in ourself!  As the moderator, I do try to keep it open, because I realize we do all have differences!  Read through the various posts, I'm sure you'll find you're not the only Orthodox Christian on this board! You are welcome here!

I didn't realize this board was so new.  Thanks for your help!  I am happy to see this board here, and I know some concerns will overlap, but Orthodoxy offers many unique situations.  The sacrament in itself is entirely different than any other Christian wedding, when executed in a the traditional way of the church.  We don't "walk down the aisle", nor are we given away.  We enter with our grooms and begin the wedding at the back of the church, working our way up to the altar as the ceremony progresses. We don't exchange vows. The service will generally last at least an hour, but can last longer.  So, even though this is truly the traditional Christian wedding, most modern brides will never need to address ANY of this.

I just thought it would be helpful to us Orthodox Knotties.  I appreciate your help, but per your advice, will not hold my breath waiting.  I'll try to join in on your new little community.  :)

Not just for the Orthodox Knotties.  Those of us with Orthodox FIs could use this board even more.

Yes, of course!   I didn't mean to exclude anyone!   :)

It really would be great to have an Orthodox Christian board!  I am non-Orthodox marrying a Russian Orthodox FI and it would be great to have a place to read and write about certain issues I am facing with the more traditional and out of ordinary (for me) ceremony!  I am pretty clueless about how the actual ceremony will go aside from the phamplets I have from the Father.

Totally agree - there used to be a Greek board, which was great... My fiance is Greek Orthodox and we are getting married in his church. I'm Middle Eastern descent but Christian - so it's really frustrating to just see all of the other ethnicities and a "Muslim" board, but no board for "my people". Let's go, KNOT!

I am Antiochian Orthodox which comes of the Middle Eastern descent, but I come from a Serbian Orthodox family.  My fiancé is a Subdeacon and also assistant to the Antiochian Bishop of Toledo.  As such, we are being married by a Bishop and at least 4 priests!  The clergy will outnumber the wedding party...

Anyhow, I would love to see this board get started.  :)  Until then, feel free to post any questions or concerns here, so that the rest of us can try to help you out. :)

  • Along with an Orthdox Board i wish there was a general Middle Eastern  board instead of just a muslim board. As an Arab who is Orthdox I have so many questions and so little answers.
