I've been pretty MIA lately. I'm sorry. Things have been pretty intense around here.
On April 15, MIL and SIL both had a psychotic break. It ended in a high speed chase with police officers and both of them being hospitalized pending mental evaluations. My nephew, SIL's son, was in the car during the chase. They were diagnosed with shared psychosis and SIL is being treated for other mental illnesses as well. We found out about their arrest from one of H's coworkers, who heard about it on the news.
MIL was released this week. We found out from SIL's social workers. The entire family, save H and me, has abandoned SIL. They blame her for MIL's psychosis. They will not call or visit her. H and I have stepped in to be her advocates. We're working with her drs, nurses and social worker to find a placement that will be good for her. We're touring a possible house on Monday. It's a home for outpatient psychiatric patients that is staffed 24/7.
In the meantime, our nephew is, or was, still living with my FIL. We have been told by SIL's social worker that she doesn't think DHS will allow our nephew to live with MIL since she was the driver in the chase. A friend of MIL and FIL works with my mom and she said something to my mom today about how MIL was released and is at home but Nephew isn't living there. We have no idea where my nephew lives now. We've made it very clear, both to the family and to DHS, that we would like to have him live with us if he weren't able to live with ILs. H has been trying to reach someone in his family but no one is answering or returning his calls.
In the midst of all this, my union voted to go on strike at 6 am on May 21st if we can't come to an agreement with our school district on our contract. They met today and made some progress, but when our union proposed 3 meeting dates for next week the board flat out refused to meet and then left the meeting. It seems pretty clear that, for whatever reason, they want us to go on strike. So there's that.
And then it's hell week, the week our play opens. We had our final dress rehearsal tonight and we open tomorrow night.
So things have been stressful and I've been busy, to say the least. I hope all of you are well, I haven't been able to get on much to even read, let alone respond.
