Praises/Prayer Requests - Week of 2/13/2011

So ladies - what is happening in your life?  Any praises?  Prayer requests?  Even if you added it in another post, feel free to put it here with any updates you might have.

Prayer- Just found out that my best friend's FIL passed away very unexpectedly in his sleep last night.  I think he was in his late 50's, maybe early 60's.  He apparently had an aneurysm diagnosed last year, but the doctors didn't think it was serious enough yet to go through the surgery for it.  We aren't 100% sure what the cause of death was, yet, but this is what the family is assuming right now.  My friend and her husband have a 1 year old son and she's due with baby #2 in April.  Her husband has an older brother and a younger sister still in HS.  Please keep the J family in your prayers this week.

Prayse (misspelling intended)- I might have a lead on a job in Kansas.  There's a family in town looking for a caretaker for their daughter who has autism.  I just heard about the opportunity through someone at FI's church...they didn't say how old she was or which shift needed to be filled.  It would be 40 hrs/week and over minimum wage,  in the field I'm most passionate about.  It would also be a job that ends when the workday ends, instead of worrying about balancing our first year of marriage with my first year of teaching.  I'd rather find a place for a job in our marriage than try to find room for our marriage in my job.

Prayer ... I have 3 weeks left at my current school (part-time) and need to transition to my new full-time job but have to be patient.  Between now and then I have to run the school talent show, try to pull off an impromtu chorus concert for my last week, and get packed up and leave the classroom ready for the next chorus teacher... Ah, work stress.  Oh, and I volunteered myself to send SOME lesson plans to the sub at the school where I'll be working in 3 weeks, so I kind of have to double-plan these next couple of weeks, but it's temporary and for my benefit... or at least I keep repeating that to myself!

Praise ... I only have 3 weeks left at my current part-time job and then I get to have health insurance again!  I'm calling dr's offices this week to set appointments for after my health insurance kicks in because I have to find all new doctors, well that, and I have some medical things I need to actually go to a doctor to get resolved, so I am patiently and prayerfully waiting for that day to come!  Also a praise -- God's been working on FI's heart lately, in a good way.

Prayer:  For FI and myself.  He's never been exposed to church or God and has no idea what I'm talking about when I mention "doors" or "spirits" and sometimes it's hard.  It's a lot to explain and illaborate on, but if you ladies could just pray that he can understand and maybe become interested - I'd appreciate it.  Also that I will keep my understanding and patience, and continue to grow and not run. 

Praise:  After a long, two week wisdom teeth ordeal, I went back today for another complication of a bone splinter.  It was the easiest and least painful of the whole process and I'm so grateful for that!!  I told the oral surgeon and nurses that they are really nice and great at what they do, but I'd like to not come back.  :P  It looks like I won't have to!!

URGENT Prayer Request- There's a wildfire back home.  The fire is about 9 miles from my house, but it's a very close, rural community, and I have a lot of friends who live very close to the fire.  It's 200 acres wide right now, and they can't use the helicopters until the wind calms down.

We had some wildfires today too - on Interstate 40 near my home.  It was a little scary.  All of the fire trucks in town and nearby towns went over to help.  It's apparently REALLY dry in my area right now.  

Praying for all of you ladies!!

Beth - is your FI a believer?  Do the two of you share the same faith?

I was just thinking the same thing, joesgurl.  It can be difficult to maintain the faith that God wants of us sometimes, and that can become even more difficult if your partner doesn't have the same faith or belief that you do.

Fire Update- It's only 50% contained and has now burned over 700 acres.  There isn't any rain in the forecast...the winds have calmed a little, but not much. There are a few farm properties in "moderate" danger, but no buildings have been burned.  As far as I know, it's still technically in the National Forest.  The winds on Monday blew over a power line, which started the fire.

This is especially tough because the best friend I mentioned in my first post grew up on the mountain where the fire is, and her parents, grandparents, and aunt & uncle still live there, right across the road from the fire right now.  In addition to allllll of that, her grandmother (the one that lives on that mountain) was admitted to the hospital yesterday with chest pains.  I haven't heard if she's been released or not.  The funeral for her FIL is tomorrow.  Please continue to pray for her in-laws and her family. 

She's 33 weeks pregnant, and trying her best to keep calm, which was difficult to begin with, having a 1-year-old.  Her husband has been able to take the week off, but he'll have to go back to work on Monday.

Wow, emily... pregnant friend amidst the fires.  Definitely adding that to my prayer list tonight!!

Kelley- I realize I didn't make this clear earlier, but she doesn't live up there anymore.  She lives in the next town over with her husband and son.  But she's just been bombarded with stressor after stressor this week, and everyone keeps telling her to "keep calm."  She's in that, "Ummmm...calm and don't stress...riiiiight," phase at the moment.  But their faith has been so evident in our conversations and her posts on fb.  She and her DH (and his mom and sister) are totally leaning on Christ right now for every bit of strength, which is so encouraging to see.

New prayer request:

My mom's friend is having medical issues after visiting Japan, and they can't seem to figure out what is wrong with her.  She has an appointment tomorrow (technically today) but isn't very hopeful since they haven't been able to find the source yet.  Please pray that they find the answer and can fix it.    Thank you ladies!!
