are you guys doing that AND china?? i'm kind of torn since my FI and I are not buying a house for probably 1-2 years and i doubt we would be having dinner parties right away anyway.

We're only registering for china, actually. We already have a bunch of everyday stuff that we use everyday and I don't feel a need to have extra. In fact, when we moved in together, we each had a whole set of everyday dinnerware and I had to throw mine out because we just had no room for it!

Not that we'll have dinner parties to use the china yet...but I like to think maybe we will eventually when we buy a house? I figure there's no other time to get china, really, other than buying it yourself, so we went ahead and registered for gorgeous china. If we don't get it, then I'll be sad, but I'll get over it. My mom hinted she may be buying it for us though...

Just every day dishes for us. I've never seen any one actually get fine china even if they registered for it.

Nope no china for us. My mom has several sets as she was the only girl in her family. We also received the china from my dad's parents as my other two cousins were married at the time we cleared out her house. My mom is going thu all the china this winter and will let me pick a set out if I want it. I have no place right now for it either.

We just registered for a nicer quality everyday dinnerware set, no china. My mom is splitting my grandmother's china between my sister and me, so we will have a nice set of china if we do host a dinner party. Even if I didn't have my grandmother's china, I'm not sure if we would have registered for it. I don't think we would ever use it, even though it is nice to have.

Yeah I registered for both. I figured this is really my only opportunity to get fine china without buying myself. So even if I don't use it right away I wanted to get it now. And if no one buys it, no big deal.

No China for me... personally I find it to be a waste of money but that is just my opinion.

At this point, no China. We really don't have a place to keep it. Honestly, we don't really need any place settings, but we may still register for some more Fiesta ware. I already have 5 sets, plus a set of Correll, and some random plastic junk lol

But, a friend of FI's family gave us a TON...like boxes and boxes of Longaberger dishes/bakeware when I moved out here in 2010. It was extremely generous, and the way it is, we have it stored in the basement because we don't have a good place to keep it. I can't see adding China to the list of things to be stored. And like you, OP, we aren't going to be buying a house for the next few years (unless something miraculous happens), so not only is there no good place to store it, there's really no need for it either. I can't really imagine any fancy dinners at our 4 person bar table lol
