Which version of the Bible do you use?

Is the version your church uses for readings different from the one you use at home?

Any specific reasoning for your selection?

NIV
Its the version that our church uses most often, so therefore was what I started with due to that influence. I have attempted a few others, but simply find the NIV easier to understand. I do own a King James as well.

I use the ESV.  Both the church I grew up in and the church we're at now use it, as well. Besides an Interlinear Bible, the NASB is the most literal English translation available right now, but I find it more difficult to read.  The ESV is a more readable version, but just as accurate.  The one thing I do not like about the ESV is it doesn't capitilize "He," "Him," etc when talking about God or Jesus.

Orthodox Christians just have one version of the Bible, and it even differs from the Catholic and Protestant Bibles (I think we have an extra book or two in the Old Testament, but it's not a huge difference).  I think the differences that we have with church is that they read the Bible is really old foreign languages, like Greek or old Russian (called Slavonic), which can sometimes be hard to understand even if you speak the foreign language.  It would be like listening to Shakespearean English or something.

I use New Life Application Bible. I love all the notes. My dad actually went through and made notes for me throughout the bible and gave it to me as a gift. 

I also like ESV and Message for when I'm speaking to youth. They seem to connect to the Message better than other translations.

Our church uses KJV, exclusively. I have both a KJV and an NIV bible that I use regularly, about the same amount.

My church doesn't have a specific translation that they use. I use the NASB because that is what my family usually uses. I like it because it is so literal. I don't ususally have a problem understanding it, but that could be because it's what I'm used to.

ESV.
It's what FI uses so that was chosen for me. I have looked into NIV, but I like how ESV is written.

Our church recently switched to The Message (MSG) but I grew up with NRSV so that is the one I have at home.

I'm finding the switch to the modern-day language The Message sometimes good and sometimes not - one translation included a reference to prime rib, which just seemed out of context.  But it is near to hear people saying things like "hey guys, let's go hang out".  It makes it easier to visualize in my head.

I use several different translations. The Bible I keep in my purse and the one on my Kindle are ESV. My study Bible for home is NIV. At church DH and I usually share his, which is King James.

Our church doesn't use a specific translation - just whatever the speaker has.

Yeah. I think our pastor uses New King James, but the guy who does the announcements and opening uses ESV.

Yep.  The church we're at now doesn't have Pew Bibles at all.  When the senior pastor preaches, he makes a power point with the passages he's using on the slides in case someone doens't have their Bible.  DH doesn't when he preaches because he hates PP, despite me saying I could type up the slides for him.  Anyways, yes, mostly everyone brings their own Bible.

I mostly use NIV because it's what I grew up with. But I also really like the NLT. I like the Amplified Bible when I need extra clarification and  The Message if I want it really spelled out in plain language. But most of the time for just reading, or quoting, I use NIV.

We don't have pew bibles either, never have.  The psalms are in the front of the hymn/liturgy book and the readings are up on the wall to follow along, there's software that automatically puts them in and stuff.  You can hook up your iPhone/Blackberry to follow along with the service and then the slides and readings and announcements appear on your device too - makes it easy to add events to your calendar!

I don't think I've ever noticed anyone with an actual hard copy bible at our church though!
