Prayers needed

I was planning to go back to law school in the Fall. FI and I have been talking about it for a long time, and he has assured me that our finances will be fine without my income.
Background, he was married before. It was a mistake from the start, and he was very unhappy. She did not work their entire marriage and racked up about 40K in credit card debt in 4 years. Since she didn't work and he felt guilty, he took on most of it in the divorce.
When he and I were talking budgets this weekend, he finally gave me the remaining balances, which total 16K. I don't feel like I can go back to school and incur more debt when we already owe so much. All he wants is for me to go back to school next year, and doesn't see me finding a job in Tucson to be an acceptable option.
Please pray that we magically find $16,000, kidding. Please pray that we can come to an agreement that feels safe and healthy for both of us. I hate how defeated he feels right now, but I want to make sure that we start off our marriage financially sound.

Try not to let the $16k get you down -- I'm inheriting some CC debt from my FI and he's inheriting some student loans from me.  Eventually he'll have his student loans come due too (he's in school for his MSManagement now).  Debt happens.  Just make sure you stick to a reasonable payment schedule, and DO what you need to do.  Right now, honestly I'd strongly suggest you consider going back to school.  The later you wait to go back to school, the less likely you are to finish in a reasonable amount of time.  Life happens.  Best not to delay something like your degree if you actually have the motivation to get it done!!  

I'll pray for you guys as well.
