I need dog help

Cody, the new dog, came home from the shelter on Sunday.  We were told he was potty trained, but of course we were diligent in watching and making sure he went out regularly and pottied.  Everything went great Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday day time.  No accidents, he went to the door when he needed out, etc.

Late last night, around 10 or 11, he suddenly started going in the house with no warning.  No sniffing around, nothing.  Just bloop, there it is.  He went inside 3 times in the span of 8 hours.  His urine has a strong smell to it, too.

Am I wrong in thinking he's ill?  We're set to go to the vet and H is home with him today, watching to be sure nothing more develops, but I'm concerned.

It could be a few different things.. he could be marking his new territory, he could not be very disciplined, or he may have a UTI. Bringing him to the vet is definitely smart to get him checked out and get him on a prescription if he is in fact sick. If not, I'd chalk it up to him marking his new territory and make sure he knows what he's doing is wrong and when he does go outside reward him with a small treat and tell him how much of a good boy he is.

But since you mentioned the urine has a strong stench and he had 3 accidents in the matter of 3 hours he may be sick. Our dog holds everything in all day from about 7:30 in the morning until about 5:30 when we get home from work. We call her our iron bladder, but usually dogs can hold it all day while you're at work so 3 accidents in 8 hours sounds like a red flag.

Summer, that was my thought too, especially since he was fine all Mon and Tues while we were at work.

I used to work as a vet tech, and because of the frequency and the smell of the urine, it could very likely be that he is sick. Definitely best to get him checked out!

I would say because of the smell he might have a bug- but he also could be marking his territory. You're right in going to the vet though!

We had a dog that used to do this and it turned out it was her food, she just wasn't used to it because the previous owner fed her crap.

I don't know anything about dogs so I'll be no help but let us know what happens.

The vet is a good idea for sure.  My Molly Bear has had so many ups and downs with UTIs and then holding urine all day, then goes in her sleep then goes again 15 minutes later - so on.  It's much better to be safe than sorry.  :)
