Did the NFL influnce your wedding?

A conversation with FH today brought this question to my mind. He is a Steeler fan and I am a Vikings fan so there are usually no conflicts during the watching of football on Sundays. But today's discussion of weddin colors became a gigglefest (for me) and sheer horror (for him)

I was talking about the guest book and mentioned that we would need to get black and sliver sharpies for people to write on the pages (differeing shades of dark and light purple). In a horrified voice, FH declares that black and silver cannot be in our wedding colors because the guys from work (and close friends) will question his Steelers loyalty if Raiders colors are our wedding colors. I reminded him that purple and black are the primary colors and that silver is just being used as an accent. He then begins to talk about how nicely gold goes with purple and black ... I had trouble talking at this point because I was laughing so hard ... After 20 minutes I still could not convince him that silver accents would not jepordize his standing in the Steeler Nation. It is then only time he has every even commented on the colors we are using. I guess I can tell the football lockout is over and preseason will be here soon ...

Has anyone else had this discussion?

The NFL isn't playing a part but college football is. We got engaged at a Tennessee football game and we are both UT fans so we are trying to blend that into our wedding without going over the top.
    1. We are using the color Tangerine from DB (same color as Tennessee)
    2. I am getting a grooms cake made into the power T
    3. My garter for him to keep will be a University of Tennesee
    4. His cummerbund set is orange checker board (like their endzones) There is a picture in my planning bio
    5. I want to paint a mail box for our card box in the orange and white checker board pattern

Is your FI from Pittsburgh?! I'm sure you know that Steeler nation is BIG. It's like a lifestyle haha. We are big Steeler fans, of course, but not to the point of changing our wedding colors haha. Our wedding was royal blue and orange with turquoise accents. Which was like Florida Gators colors, but we aren't huge into college sports, although we are Pitt fans!

Anyway, that is a funny story, but I totally get it! Go Steelers!!

FI and I are Steelers fans. He's from Pitt. I have family who are Bengals fans. I'm trying to figure out how to bring a little bit of Steelers into reception. FSIL suggested waving Terrible Towels as we made our entrance to reception. I'm also trying to find a Steelers cake topper that doesn't have the bride pulling the groom away from football (since I'd be right there with him watching). Wedding isn't til next Oct but I'm hoping that will be Steelers bye week since our luncheon the day after would likely be during game time.

The only influence it had for us is that we planned our honeymoon around a Monday night Dolphin game so that we could go to see it before going on the rest of our honeymoon (a week in Disney).

I think it's pretty funny that he is concerned about what the guys will think. And, by the way, go Ravens! Smile

FH is not from Pittsburg but he has been a fan for most of his life (his dad is a die hard Cowboys fan). I have been a Vikings fan since the first grade whent he USO brought some players to the base where my dad was stationed. FH gets a little sensative about Steelers stuff during the season because there are some guys (and students) that give him a hard time when the Steelers lose. I gave him a matted and framed picture of Heinz Field and Black and Yellow Steelers fleece blanket. He even bought me a pair of Steelers earrins for my birthday so that I could wear them every Sunday.

There are still 10.5 months left until the wedding ... I can't wait for the next wedding color conversation ...Laughing

[QUOTE]No, but SEC football did. We are having 2 receptions (much of his family, including his 2 grandmas can't travel for the wedding) and the second one was going to be on Saturday, September 24th. We were told no one would come as Bama is playing Arkansas that day. So instead, we're doing it Friday.

As a fellow SEC fan, I can appreciate this rivalry!!

My future husband barely knows what the Superbowl is and certainly doesn't know what a down is. We are hoping for a wedding on a Monday night in November. We may have some issues with guests...

I can understand this completely. I grew up about 45 minutes east of Knoxville and the only orange that matters from August to December is "Big Orange"

It is amazing what becomes important as we plan a wedding ...

I'm new to this board and was mostly lurking, but I saw this post and it made me laugh so I had to let you know--our January date was COMPLETELY chosen around the playoff schedule!

FI and I--and about 99% of our family and guests--all bleed green & gold and of course everyone is hoping the Packers make it back to playoffs this year...my mom really preferred January 14th but we liked the 21st--which is AFC & NFC Championship weekend so the games will be on Sunday and we have no risks of a Saturday game! Even if the Packers weren't in it, there's a good chance the majority of our family would vacate the reception for the bar to watch the playoffs. Not taking the chance--thank goodness the lockout is over so the schedule won't change!

It sure did! I was told while we were still dating that if we were to get married, it had to be after football season; so the months of August through the second week in February were out! That's why we're getting married in June. Not only is FI a big football fan (both NFL and college), but his entire family. I was told that one of his sisters had to change her wedding date because the original date was during a Southern University football game! So, I was warned early in our relationship that football is a big family favorite pasttime, especially since most of his family are Southern University alumni! The tough thing is that I'm an LSU graduate, which makes for interesting conversation during Sunday dinner. Since the lockout is over and NFL football will go on this year, I'm preparing to become a "Who Dat!" wife! :-)
