Honeymoon?

How long was/is your honeymoon?

i am talking to my wedding planner and she can get us 7 days and 7 nights in South Lake Tahoe in a Condo for $1050 (which is $150 a night..which is IMPOSSIBLE for tahoe)! i am excited...altho FI is a little nervous about the price.

BUT my wedding planner owns a timeshare and can work with us to give her payments and stuff like that. i think it will be worth it.

where are/did you go? for how long? did you pay for it yourselves?

His brother (the BM) said that he is going to help pay for it. hopefully he still will. (:

We got married on a Saturday in upstate NY.  On Sunday we drove to Baltimore and spent the night at a hotel by the airport.  On Monday morning we flew to Miami and spent a week in Florida (flying back to Baltimore on the following Monday).

In Miami we went to a Dolphins/Jets Monday night game which was awesome!  On the next day we flew to Orlando for the rest of our Honeymoon where we went to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom.  We got sick while there so we only spent 3 full days at the parks and one morning at Epcot doing the dolphin adventure.

We paid for it ourselves.  It was more than I would have wanted to pay for a vacation but it was our honeymoon so we spent it anyway.

We're going to Puerto Rico for one week (late May/early June).  FI is paying.  Luckily, it's off season there at that time, so hotels are less expensive.

so a week isnt a crazy long time, then?

its pretty standard? that is what i was thinking...but FI wanted to take like 3 days. My wedding planner said that other brides that she had regretted only taking a few days.

it will be more expensive but its your HONEYMOON!!! and idk when we will have the time or money to take a vacation like this again.

Definitely take at least a week!  I wish we had longer but I had taken 3 days off before the wedding and took a day after we got back to settle in so I had to take 2 weeks in a row off from work.

This is such a special time for you to spend together as husband and wife without needing to worry about schedules, work or other responsibilities.

i completely agree with you, joesgirl.

my FI is concerned with money...and having money for our place and for stuff in the place. but i am really praying that ppl will bless us and we can do everything that we want. (:

I wish we would go longer, but a) I'm taking unpaid leave from work, and b) it is pricey.

We're going to Aruba for 6 days.  A deacon at the church FI grew up at is an Executive VP at Marriott and got us some amazing prices.  (I still don't know what that price is...I just know it's dirt cheap).  FILs bought our plane tickets as our gift and we're planning activities with what we have right now.  If we get cash as gifts we will take some of it on the HM for a few "treats."  I wish we could take about 10-14 days total, especially since we're long distance until the wedding, but we need to save FI's vacation time to come home for Christmas.

emily, thats how i feel!!! being in LDR makes me wanna have soooo much alone time with my FI as possible! lol.

i am praying we will get lots of cash from our guests and that ppl will just bless us!

his brother (the BM) offered to pay for our honeymoon when we first got engaged...so i am really hoping he is still up for it!

ya...i told my wedding planner that we definately want the week!!! (:

i am sooo excited for it!

We are going to Riviera Maya, Mexico for one week. We are staying at an all inclusive, so the only things we will need to pay for while we are down there is excursions/shopping. FI and I are paying for the entire honeymoon, although my uncle owns a travel agency and my aunt used to be a travel agent, so they got us very good prices. I am very excited!

Monica, def try to take a little longer than 3 days. 5-7 would be good! Even if you have to go somewhere less expensive so that you can stay longer, ya know?

ya! we totally want that week long!!!! we are praying that we just get blessed! (:

    we trust God.

    and we deserve this! (: (: (:

We're going to a mountain cabin for a week - 6 days and 5 nights (leaving Sunday after a stay-over in a hotel not too far from the reception site).  The package that adds 2 more nights on it is really appealing to us and we're considering adding the additional 2 nights, but the difficulty is that FI can only get so many days off from work, and logistically, we need to come back so we can move my stuff (not moving my stuff before the wedding, or at least we're holding off on my furniture because I will want to sleep in my bed on the night before the wedding!).  Our families might help move a few things while we're gone, but we also want the chance to move in and make the home ours, so that we're not walking into "someone else's" home.  We'll only be together in his apartment for about 2 months before we move again anyway, so I guess it's not a big deal, but we're very excited about the chance to finally be together every day and every night!! :-)

I agree with the idea of a week versus 3 days... I think I'd regret not taking longer.  Couples that have already lived together or have already stayed together for a while may feel differently and take less time on the HM, I don't know... but we really want a whole week!!

July 16, Our Wedding Day, is also International Juggling Day!

We're getting married about two weeks before classes start. Because we want to have time to get settled into our new apartment before the semester starts to pick up (I'm going to live there alone during the summer and we'll move FI in after the wedding), we can only really take three to five days.

We haven't really started looking yet, but we're planning on using a family friend's beach house in Cannon Beach. We're planning on driving there after the wedding. There's something about staying in a hotel for our first night together that just doesn't appeal to us. It's about a 6 hour drive, but I'm used to driving up to 5 hours or more in a day, anyway.

That's just what we're doing. We understand and realize that most people aren't in our situation.

Honeymoon was to Hilton Head Island, SC for 9 nights, 8 days. Truly fantastic and I'm glad DH was able to get off work for that long. We never thought we should take a shorter vacation simply because we lived together before the wedding. It's not like we were already bored with one another -- it was our honeymoon! We payed for it all ourselves. We got a lot of money as gifts, but we didn't use it on the honeymoon because we had already budgeted around $1500-2000 for the trip, including everything.

We're going to Bermuda for a week, FIs parents are paying for it for us - or we probably would be going somewhere much much cheaper.

We are going to NYC the week after the wedding. We are staying in a hotel near the reception the night after and in the area for a couple days to spend some extra time with family(mostly my adorable nieces).
We will be in NYC for 5 nights. I used the hotel points and airline miles that I have accumulated in the 4 years of traveling for my job, so getting there and staying are basically free. FI is going to book and pay for all of the activities. We have a goal to see all of the major league parks and this trip will take care of 2 of them :)

As for length, this is perfect for us because we tend to like a little bit shorter trips, and we travel a lot just to see eachother right now.

That's such a great deal congrats!

We flew out the day after the wedding and spent 2 nights in Vegas then rented a car and drove to LA stopping at the Hoover Dam on the way. We flew to Fiji from LA and stayed there for a week. Absolutely amazing! We spent the first few days celebrating in Vegas in a much more fast paced environment and then a very relaxed week on a private island in Fiji in a private bure (villa). Best of both worlds!
We paid for it ourselves and planned far in advance and booked it 14 months before the wedding so we had time to plan and save up for it.

Also, I just read through all the posts and I've never heard of people only taking a few days for the HM unless it was a mini-moon and they were taking a bigger trip a few weeks or months later. Most vacations we go on are 5-8 days, so for our HM definitely wanted to just get away from everything.. work, friends, family, stress, home, etc.. and relax and enjoy being newlyweds. It was wonderful to be almost halfway around the world with our feet in the sand. We were able to completely decompress from all the stress of the wedding and really enjoy each other and came back refreshed. I don't think we would have been ready to go back to work only a few days after the wedding. If you can definitely take at least the week!

I am taking a day and a half off work before the wedding, and two full weeks off after.  Our honeymoon is going to be 8 days.  We are getting married on a Saturday night and spending that night at our house/apartment.  The next morning we will be driving (about 8 hours) to Orlando and we will be staying at Coronado Springs.  We'll be in Disney from Monday-Friday, Universal Studios on Saturday, and then driving home on Sunday.  I will then have the next week off work to get settled in (FI will be going back to class/work at that point).  We are paying for all of it ourselves, with the exception of the Universal tickets, which my mom "bought" with Coke Reward Points and gave to us.

I'll be the lone dissenter - we left Sunday after brunch with the family and came home Wed evening.  It was perfect for us and we've never regretted not taking a longer honeymoon.  We stayed in a suite on the beach at the Oregon coast and loved every minute of it, but we were totally ready to go hone.

Where in FL? I'm from Orlando. So depending on where you are , I can offer ideas :)

We are staying in local for our honeymoon. We are going to St Augustine, FL for a week.  We will be at hotel villa type suite about 30mins away. I haven't been to St. Augustine since the 4th grade so I'm super excited. Fi's parents are paying for it and I'm so thankful that they are willing to do that. And my favorite part is I am going straight from the reception to the HM
