Review: Mascara! (long)

So it's kind of slow on the boards (and in real life for me) today, so I thought I'd post something that might be of interest whether you're having your make-up done or doing it yourself.  Even if someone else does my make-up, I still like doing my own mascara.  I wish I'd done more research last year because now I really like my lashes and wish they had looked better for the wedding.

I have super straight eyelashes that don't stay curled easily.  I've used the Lancome Cils Booster XL for a long time now (maybe 6+ years?) after I had my make-up done there for fun once.  It made my lashes look really full and now I see things like this in the drug store.  More importantly, I noticed after using it for a few months that my eyelashes were actually healthier, longer and didn't fall out as much.  I wouldn't say it would help you grow more lashes, just condition and protect the ones you grow naturally.  I would just put some CoverGirl mascara over it.

Well, a couple years ago I realized I could do that in the morning and then if I was going to go out that night, I would re-curl my lashes and give them a second coat of mascara.  This is a tricky situation.  Mostly because even 8 hours later, the mascara was a little tacky and would stick to the curler as well as start to clump.  I managed and that's what I did for my wedding, it worked ok.

Well, some of you know I have a couple YouTube make-up gurus I watch (Blair aka juicystar07, my favorite, and her sister Elle aka allthatglitters21).  Well Elle did a thing talking about her favorite products and said that of any mascara (department store or drug store), L'oreal Telescopic was her favorite. 

She was totally right.  I still have to do my second curl and coat (my lashes are THAT stubborn), but it seriously looks like I have amazing lashes - not tacky/sticky the second time, no clumping, long and curly all night!  I do use the Lancome because I think it adds some thickness and I swear it does something to keep them from getting brittle or whatever, but I've used the mascara straight and it looks great too.

Oh, I should also mention two other things:

1 - the wand on this mascara is really different than any I've seen before.  I always think that the bigger and fluffier the brush the better.  Logically, that doesn't actually make sense (your eyelashes won't magically look like the brush lol) and doesn't seem to have any correlation because this brush is very skinny.  Takes a couple days to break it in (like any mascara), but works great.

2 - I haven't tried this, but apparently (according to Blair, mentioned above) waterproof mascara holds curl better than regular.  She said she's done one on each eye of the same brand etc and says it's true.  So I guess that's something to keep in mind as well.
