November 2012 Weddings

Why November?

Hi ladies!

I am newly engaged as of Dec 17, 2011, & recently discovered The Knot. I'm glad I found this board because it's been so interesting and informative. I literally have spent every free moment since this afternoon cruising the November 2012 forum. :)

I was just curious as to the reason other people have for choosing November as their wedding month. I had several reasons, the biggest being that November is not a traditional wedding month. I did not want to do any time between May and October because the summer is hot (November is cool!) and October seems to be overplayed. I didn't want to do December due to the holidays/my dad's remarriage was in December. We wanted to get married this year, 2012, and November seemed like the logical month. Not as many people get married in November, so I think it'll be a little different, but we're looking at Nov 10 (haven't booked the reception venue yet so it is not etched in stone), so it'll be before everything starts to get crazy with the holidays.

Also, my FI is a teacher, and here in NJ the Thursday & Friday of election week (Nov 8 & 9 this year) are always days off for teachers, & November 12 is Veteran's Day so it'll be a three day weekend for a lot of our guests, which is an added bonus.

Anyway, I look forward to reading more of your wonderful posts as I go through my wedding planning. I am a little intimidated that some of you have already booked the bulk of your necessities for your weddings (church, reception venue, DJ, dress, etc). But, mom, FMIL, FI, & I are touring a possible reception venue this weekend & I'm going to David's Bridal on Sunday to try on wedding dresses, so here's hoping I find something I like!

Good luck to all of you!

Re: Why November?

  • We wanted fall and the place we choose gave a price break as of November 1st, so we went with November 10th. Nothing special about the month other than that.
  • We chose November because it starts the off-season at our venue and the prices are way lower than in the summertime.  I chose the first Saturday in November, so hopefully it will still be semi-warm :)  I like the cooler weather anyways.

    First off, welcome and congrats!

When we got engaged, I was so incredibly excited when I realized October 20, 2012 was on a Saturday.  It would be our 6 year anniversary and would be a PERFECT wedding date for us.  We told our families to save the date: 10/20/12 and we started planning.

About 2 or 3 weeks into the planning process and many MANY calls and e-mails to local venues, we realized that we weren't going to be able to get married on our anniversary.  Just about every venue in our area was already booked (apparently 10/20/12 is a stupid Hallmark holiday called "Sweetest Day").  I was crushed and I cried.

So we ended up choosing a venue and going from there.  The venue we chose had no Saturdays available in the fall (and only 2 Saturdays remaining for all of 2012).  We were both set on having a fall wedding, so we asked for a list of available dates and just happened to choose November 2, 2012.  Unlike PP's, we didn't get any special pricing for November nor did we get any special pricing for a Friday wedding.  That part sucks, but we absolutely love our venue.

Although everything that could've gone wrong did, and although November wasn't our first choice, we're very happy with the way everything turned out.  Plus I got the chance to meet all these wonderful ladies on The Knot's November 2012 board!

  • I picked November because I wanted a winter wedding, without the winter travel. And living in upstate New York, any type of weather is possible in November!
  • Welcome and Congrats on the Engagement!

Well I am getting married November 10th, 2012! The reason we went with that is mainly pricing and venue. When we oringally picked it being off season it was $1000 cheaper and hard to argue that! Then after sitting in thinking about it, November is probably one of our favorite months. So in the end it worked out awesome.

Just remember it's your guys day and make it yours! Get on the venue right away it's crazy how fast those places fill up! Then take it step by step and rely on your suppose system (mom fmil and fi...etc) to be there when your about ready to snap.

    Good luck planning!!

  • FI proposed to me on 11/11/11. We kinda have this thing about saying "I love you" or "have a good day" or something special along those lines every day at 11:11.
If we are home, we make sure we give each other a big kiss.
So, it was no doubt in our minds that we would get married on 11/11/12! It's a weekend, and it is going to be amazing.

Congrats on your engagement, and happy planning!
  • We got engaged on Christmas Eve (yes, we work fast!) and when we went to book our venue last week we knew that we didn't want to wait an extra year to have a fall wedding, and my brother is getting married in Sept. and his best friend in October (we're in both wedding). We also realized that with a guest list over 200 we needed to save where we could, and we got a huge price break, as well as lots of other incentives to book for November. :)

  • We both wanted an outdoor wedding, which had to be spring or fall. Spring weather is too unpredictable, and September/October is the tail end of hurricane season. It worked out perfectly, because November 3rd is our 5 year anniversary. :D

  • It is hot in Texas. That is reason enough but also we are getting married the weekend after thanksgiving so family can come for thanksgiving and stay the weekend too. A good excuse to get some much needed family time in. Also, my sister has kids in school and my mom is a teacher so I did have to consider school breaks. Funny the things you don't realize you will have to consider. We also went with a Sunday over Saturday because it saved us 1300!
  • my birthday is oct 20th and my step moms is oct 10th. i didnt want an october wedding and theres always been something about november that i loved. i love the cool air and the foliage in november. our venue price is actually the same price if we did a summer wedding. i havent seen any offseason pricing yet. it may be where i live though!

  • Summer is actually the offseason for us because it's so dang hot. October-December is the peak period, but I don't mind. Someone had already booked the evening of 11/3, but more and more I like the idea of a day wedding, especially since we have so many people driving in and we don't want them to drive home so late at night.

Loving these stories, especially the anniversaries!

  • Novemebr here starts the peak season... but we're getting married in November because it is our anniversary month. I always knew ever since the day he asked me to be his girlfriend that I would love to get married on that date when we officially became a couple, which is November 25. HOWEVER, I picked the 25th this year which is a Sunday to commemorate our 14 year anniversary, but FI told me he didn't want a Sunday wedding. So we are getting married on the 24th, the day before and celebrating our anniversary around midnight.

FI said that once we are married, our wedding date will the the date will be our new anniversary date: I can live with that...it's just one day before our initial anniversary anyway.
