Dress Alterations

Hello...trying to figure out when I should make an appointment for dress alterations.  My wedding date is 11/2/12, so I have just over 6 months to go.  I don't need major alterations, just to have the dress taken in a bit at the top/hips, and shortened.  Is there a standard time frame for alterations?  Thanks!

    The bridal salon I went to told me to come back in August for alterations.

    Same for me. I think I'm going to make an appointment for early August and then pick up before the end of the month. I bought my dress on Cape Cod and it needs to get to Connecticut and the easiest way is for my Dad to take it before he and my Mom move back after the summer.
    Hoepfully it will work out well, I don't need anything except for cups and a busle

    I am going for alterations around 2 months before the wedding, but it really depends on where you are getting them done and how busy they are/how long they take for alterations. I would recommend asking the place that is going to do them. They would know better how long each thing will take and how busy they will be at that time of year.

    Yeah, mine said usually about 2 months before, but my dress has a lot of beading, so they said to come back in August. You don't want it altered too soon just in case you lose (or heaven forbid, gain) weight. :)

    Im super lucky and have a friend that is a fantastic seamstress, he will be doing my dress 2 weeks before the wedding.

    My bridal salon told me to call the seamstress they have on staff this june/july to book for my first alterations in Sept/early oct.  Mine just needs to be taken in on the sides too as well as possibly shortened a little, unless I grow 5 inches before then!  So sept/Oct for sure you should see her then again if necessary after
