April 2012 Weddings

Bride to Be in a Panic Moment!!!

At the risk of being overly dramatic, the worst case scenario has happened.

We originally set our date on April 14th because it is the day after my birthday (call me crazy, but since I never have friends/family there for my birthday because they are all out of town, I liked the idea).  We are getting married in the French Quarter in New Orleans and the coordinator at our venue was aware of an annual festival in the French Quarter in April which gets more crowded every year, and she checked and thought it was going to be the following weekend so we were okay.  We would have chosen the week after if the festival was on the 14th, but the fact that the festival would not be happening that weekend steered us to the 14th.

Yesterday evening I get an e-mail from a friend who is standing in the wedding complaining that she wanted to get a hotel room to hang out after the wedding but everything was booked, did I know the festival was the same weekend?  I Googled the festival and nearly had a heart attack when I saw she was correct.  After a semi sleepless night I called the wedding coordinator who had an OMG I'm going to have to call you back moment.  She called me back after a few minutes and said that she suggested that we change our date to the 21st due to the logistical problems from the crowds of festival-goers, but if we were locked in with our other vendors they could move our ceremony up 20 minutes and we would have to instruct everyone to get there ahead of time due to parking/traffic.

So now comes the whole grocery list of other vendors I need to check with!  Thankfully everything is looking clear so far that we had only booked the rehearsal dinner, photographer, hotel for the honeymoon, and hotel for the wedding night, and all of them seem to be fine with the date change.

Guess I'll have to change my ticker once we firm everything up with everyone, and wait an extra seven days to get a desperately needed week off of work and to wear the wedding band that my engagement ring just NEEDS to go with it :-(  And tons of phone calls tonight to relatives and wedding party when I'm on a deadline at my second job.  :-( :-(
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
