I have a friend (L). I was a little reluctant to tell her about CP because I know she'd be bitter. L is rolling into the latter half of her 30's and probably hasn't a man since she was my age.
She asked me if I wanted to go to lunch on Valentine's Day. I told her I would go, but not eat a full meal because I'd gone to brunch. She was all *deepsigh* ok, I just don't want to go out on Valentine's Day alone *deepsigh, deepsigh*. I told her to call BFF and see if she wanted to go.
I get there and it's all chit chat and light laughter until she brings up being alone for Valentine's Day. BFF chimes in with, "Hooka wouldn't know anything about that since she went and got her a man."
L looked for a second and said, "How long is this one going to last?"
Ohbitch.
I shot her a death glare and asked her what she meant. She said, 'You're always meeting new men and it never really lasts for long. I mean, why do you even date? you don't want to be married or have kids."
In sum-
I meet people because I'm SINGLE and that's what single people do. I don't sit at church waiting for Jesus to send a man down from the heavens to me.
My main goal in life isn't to get married and have children.
Some of these people are nice and we go out a few times before it fizzles. I don't expect to be swept off my feet the first date and engaged the second.
If she spent as much time focused on going out (which doesn't mean a club) and having fun, she'd have a man by now. Instead, she plays this role that's going to have her single forEVER.
She's 35 and if she wants a man she needs to start acting like it and not just writing in her journal about it like we're in 8th grade.
I paid for my appetizer and left.
BFF called me later to tell me I hurt L's feelings and shouldn't have left.
Fuckher. I've dealt with her judgemental naïveté for long enough and if L and BFF want to sit back and continue to be themselves, they can. I'm not for dealing with their 'stupid and boring**' asses.
