Wedding Woes

Dafuq?

There are already so many reasons for Arizona to be beaming with pride. They hardly needed another feather in their cap, but it looks like they've got one anyway: a mother in Phoenix was arrested earlier this week after she put beer in her son's sippy cup while they were eating at a local pizza place.

First of all, never do that. But if you are going to do it, certainly do not do it in a restaurant in full view of everyone, and then especially do not get up and leave the child alone at the table with his cup of beer—which she did, beeteedubs. Valerie Marie Topete, 36, said she gave her two-year-old the beer because he "kept reaching" for the pitcher of it on the table. Sure, okay, kids reach for the steering wheel of the car, but that DOES NOT MEAN YOU LET THEM DRIVE.

There were conflicting accounts of whether the boy actually consumed any of the beer, but he was taken to the hospital as a precaution. His mother was charged with one count of child abuse, and the boy is now in the custody of his father—though he was also at the pizza place with the boy's two siblings when all of this happened. But he's hopefully aware by now that alcohol + sippy cup = parenting disaster.

Re: Dafuq?

  • At least it was only beer?  I would judge a sippy cup full of vodka much more harshly.

  • It took me awhile to figure out WTF your title meant.  Me thinking WTF is what made me figure it out.

This is from the woman who figured out Steak N Shake's "Takhomasak" just a few years ago after living here for 22 years.

LOL - this is a big joke in our family because it took a good 30 plus years for my step-mom to figure it out.
  • Thanks for the laugh V!!  :)

Steak N Shake was founded in 1934 in Normal, IL and it's HQ is here in Indy.
  • I think I just assumed it was some Steak N Shake *thing* that I didn't get. And the newer ones don't have it posted, do they? We still have two of the old Route 66 ones here.  One of them does a monthly car show from April to October that brings in all the old cars.  They're so cool.

I was sitting at the stoplight looking at the restaurant on the corner one day thinking about how stupid it was, there was no way that was any sort of Indian or any other foreign word and saying it aloud over and over in my head and then lightbulb flashed over my head, probably brightly enough to light the world for a split second.

DH laughs at me about this to this day as well.  It's good to know I'm not the only one.  :)
  • Care the let the rest of us in on it? I've never been to Steak n Shake.

And I'm impressed with AZ. Usually on holidays people just run over their kids in the driveway. This is - well, probably easier for the kid to recover from, at least.

  • BMom, Takhomasak  = Take Home A Sack.
  • Ah. I was all "TahkoMAhsahk". I never would have gotten that.

  • They say it in the commercials and it is pretty clear that it means Take Home a Sack.  You get a pass for only seeing it in writing.

  • I've actually never seen a Steak and Shake commeicial.  Huh.
  • I also have not seen a commercial.

I was saying it the same way, BMom.  I think the only reason why I figured it out was I kept saying it over and over obsessively.  That must've been one long light that day (I was at a red in the left hand turn lane).

And yeah, it's written on the roof of the restaurant.  I should dig up an unlabled picture so you guys can see it.  It's a neat little restaurant.  It doesn't do curb side service anymore, but the other older one does.
  • Are the commercials only on in St. Louis?  Help me out MrsConn.  Surely Indy has them, too?
