Wedding Woes

We got a dishwasher

This house didn't have a built-in dishwasher when we bought it.  The previous owners had a portable and they took it with them.  It wasn't a dealbreaker to me and DH said we could always install one in the future.  I didn't mind hand-washing the dishes until DD2 was born.

We used the free money from Best Buy (from my laptop order debacle) to buy a dishwasher.  I don't know if anyone is familiar with Menards, but it's a home improvement store.  They have mail-in rebates on stuff all.the.time. and we had enough in rebates to get the countertop and cabinet to encase the dishwasher.  So far, we've only spent $25 out-of-pocket on this project.  We knew we'd put one in before we tried to sell the house, so doing it for virtually nothing is awesome.

We began the install yesterday.  The previous homeowners had their washer/dryer in the kitchen, so the hookups already exist.  We just had to move them down closer to the floor.  So today we're installing the cabinet and hopefully hooking the dishwasher up.  We're setting the goal of having all done by Sunday, just in case something comes up that takes extra time.

  • YAY!  That's awesome that you only paid $25 out of pocket.
  • I cannot imagine not having a dishwasher. But that's awesome that you are getting it for next to nothing.

I love Menards. "Meet me at Menards!" I miss those commercials.
  • Can I say that I'm impressed that y'all are doing all of this work yourselves?

Yay for only $25 out of pocket too.

I love doing projects on the house with DH.  He mostly enjoys it as well.  I do get a little annoying with all of my questions, but I'm just trying to learn, you know?  He has taught me so much about construction and plumbing.  I don't touch electrical, though.

  • I should mention that I have never had a dishwasher.  My parents don't have one.  I had one at my townhouse at school, but I never used it.  The 4 of us just washed our own stuff, so washing a cup and plate each day wasn't worth running the dishwasher.

I actually don't really know what is supposed to go where.  I need to read the manual so I don't melt all the sippy cups.
  • air drying in the diswasher make sense...NOLA = brilliant.  The Mr.'s head my explode if I start doing this though..

we installed one and w/ baby stuff, I'm glad (it wasn't a big deal before, but, now...well, being able to sterilize bottles w/ ease and wash pump part every night was (is) a big deal
