what to wear as a guest

Hello ladies.  SIL will be getting married in a small private ceremony with a reception in her art gallery in your city in the Fall.  All I'm told is that it's non traditional & she wants everyone to be comfy.

What should guests wear?  Will cocktail attaire -- me in a short dress & DH in a dark suit -- be OK?

Please help.  TIA.

i think that would be ok. Non traditional can mean anything.. but to me, if it's in an art gallery, i'd wear cocktail attire. :)

Ditto PP, sounds totally fine.  I see you're from the east coast - we're a bit more laid back on the west coast.  I've noticed East coasters tend to be more formal in attire than west coasters do.  If you're on the same board as Melissa82, she's from NJ but did live out here for a year or two and can probably give you some good input. :)

Yea, I'd go with a cocktail length dress, and let FI wear khakis and a button-up - esp. since she said she wanted ppl to be comfy.
