Mom was called for jury duty for a rape/murder case.  When asked the professions of her grown children, Mom said, "One daughter has been employed with [my law firm] for years, knows [several local and state gov't representatives] through work and socially, and has worked actively with [my boss] on the case against [local judge].  My other daughter works part time at [bookstore].  Need to know more?"  She said the defense attorney gave her a hearty side-eye and took notes.  She said the prosecution looked up at the defense attorney with wide eyes and they both said, "You're excused."

I'm sure she prepared that speech the minute the summons arrived in her mailbox.

Oh Yes. I was up for a death penalty case, and I must have written on every scrap of paper they gave me that I DO NOT BELIEVE IN THE DEATH PENALTY.

I'm sure they were like, "lady we got it already."

LOL Nola.  She knew she couldn't be partial.  Her BFF was raped and murdered the night of her high school graduation, and the case has never been solved.  She said despite any doubt she had and what the facts may prove, she knew she'd lock him up.

I had to fill out a demographic questionnaire for the local courthouse. I thought it was for jury selection. I was never contacted. I guess people like me don't commit crimes....or they don't get caught
