Venue Change

I am THE MOST indecisive person ever. It's a miracle I can pick and stick with one groom! Well, my wedding isn't until 8/2/13 and I've now changed my venue. I went from a hotel in Seattle to now the Monte Cristo Ballroom in Everett. We went from having just apps and a cash bar (I know this is frowned upon, but at $7 a BEER!!! we couldn't afford much in terms of drinks), to a 6 course plated meal and open bar (beer and wine). My wedding is now going to be extremely elegant and just what I picture in my head! And, they provide literally almost everything! Set up, clean up, a butler, champagne brunch for BP while getting ready, cake, invitations, candy buffet and LOTS more. I'm SO excited.

Now - I'm fighting to get my deposit back from the initial hotel. UGH. They are trying to make me pay half of what the minimum was. I guess this is what I get for trying to plan ahead. Keeping my deposit is one thing, but paying $1k on top of it? The date isn't until 15 months out. I think it's crazy to make me pay on top of keeping my deposit.

Re: Venue Change

  • Glad you found a new/better venue!  Did you sign a contract with the old venue that stated that you had to pay the extra $1,000 by any specific date of cancellation?  15 month cancellation really shouldn't have such steep fees imo.

  • I completely agree. Yes, I signed the contract and didn't realize I would be responsible for 50% of the venue cost in the event I cancelled. It's my fault for reading it wrong, and being under the impression that 100% was refundable providing there was a large amount of time between the cancellation and the event date. I guess it's a lesson learned. They're still working with me on the cancellation portion. Losing the $500 deposit sucks, but paying in addition to that loss really sucks. Fingers crossed we work something out.

It's hard to believe in all of the corporate events I have planned in the past, we've cancelled and have never not got our deposit refunded.

  • I hope they end up letting the 1k go Tiffany. Thats a lot of money, especially since you cancelled 15 MONTHS in advance, they will have no problems rebooking that date!

On the bright side, I am so happy you found a venue that more fits your vision. Yay!!

Thank you! I'm so excited for what will now be, such a formal affair :) It sounds like they're going to work on the $1k (the second go around she said I'd be responsible for $250 in addition to losing my deposit), I'm really hoping to get the deposit back, however, I'm not counting on it... She claims she's still working on it to see what she can do. fingers crossed.
