Wedding Woes

:: evil cackles ::

from where i cheat:

We've been invited to the wedding of an acquaintance. Yay! But on the RSVP card, it asks to you tick a box confirming you'll pay for your meal (per person).  Is this a new trend/tradition we've previously been unaware of?

is it a card party or a wedding? what? i have many questions for the bride and groom. and the venue, for that matter.
  • seriously

Did they put a stamp on the RSVP?  If so, I would send it back with a comment about how inappropriate it is. If not, I wouldn't RSVP and hope someone calls me about it later.
  • it's a for real wedding, with a cake and a reception and everything.

i want to know if they had an a,b and c list, where the a list get a free meal and drinks, b list gets a free meal but cash bar, and c has to pay for meal and drinks.

i ask because this is the wedding of an acquaintance, and i want to know if they treat their friends differently.

  • Whoa.  Do people get different colored armbands so the servers know?

  • What?!  This is for real?!

I wonder if the bride and groom call the non-tickers to find out why.
  • i also want to know if you can pay more and get a dinner upgrade.  because i totally would.  i would eat my lobster and steak right in front of the bride and groom, and then i would try to buy the top layer of the wedding cake.

Do they tell you how much?  Do they accept credit cards?
  • Now I have a party question.

I booked a place for the par-tay. It's a cute restaurant with a large private room in the back. I'm going with heavy apps, and two drinks per guests. I want them happy, but not H-A-P-P-Y.

They suggest handing out drink tickets when the guests arrive. I'm ok with it, but now y'all have me thinking. If they want to get liquored up after two, then they can order more at the main bar in the dining area.

How am I rating on the no-no scale?

  • I would write a note that I will be brown bagging it.  And then I will ask the bride before the ceremony if there is a freezer handy for my Lean Cuisine meal.  I don't want it getting soggy before microwave time.

I just a friendly gal looking for options.

<div>I think drink tickets are fine, but then, the way we handled alcohol at my reception is probably viewed as tacky, so take my opinion wiht a grain of salt.</div><div>We only had beer and wine and people had to go out to the hotel bar to get their liquor.  I did not feel bad about that.  Liquor is expensive and I don't personally feel that you need alcohol to have a good time.  (You also don't need to take your clothes off to have a good time.)  </div><div>So, when should we all expect to receive our invitations?  I know you have my address.</div><div>

  • Nola, I wouldn't expect an open bar and meal for a birthday party.  I think you're fine.

nola, i don't have a problem with that. especially because it's not a wedding.

what if you decide to go, but you don't plan to eat? will they allow you to attend the reception to mingle and dance without having a meal?

i think i also need to see a menu to decide what is worth ordering. i don't think the B&G get to decide what i get to spend my money on, either. in fact, i would decline and tell them i would rather pay for a meal at ABC instead.

well, i wouldn't really do that, but i'd decline if i had to pay for my own food.
  • It includes beer, wine, champagne, martini or sodas. I think that's enough, yo.

  • For a bday?  Nola, that is going above and beyond.  Anyone saying otherwise needs a hefty snatchyaface moment.
