File a report with the police department and CPS.  When I was young I grew up in a very abusive household, a friends mother finally called the cops to report it.  Granted nothing happened because my dad was a prison guard.  As a mom, I can't imagine being that irresponsible.  My daughter is my life.  I would call the cops and report the stories that he has told you.

i'm going to be talking to the school today and i hope that they will be able to decipher more of the situation...yesterday i told mom that it was completely unacceptable to not have someone home for him when he gets home...so the next time that happens, i will call the police. for now, i'm hoping it was an isolated incident. there's a language barrier with the mom, and i THINK she said dad is coming back in two weeks....

It really is important that you call CPS. I read your other thread, and since you reported it to the school, they will probably be reporting it as well. Since it seems that the incident is not isolated, like many reports are, having multiple reports is important for the safety and determination of well-being of the child. What a very scray situation... you're doing the right thing! Keep us updated!

The school should definitely call CPS. If they don't they should be fired because it is required by law that they report it. But since you were there firsthand and you know better than the school what happened, you should report it as well.
