Question about Thank You Cards

Mannnn, It's really hard to get motivation to do post wedding things. I still need to post my vendor reviews, and order/do my thank you cards, and make a for sale list/site. Blah!

Anyway, I have 2 questions about Thank You cards.

1. I don't really know etiquette very well. So here's my question....Do I need to send a Thank You card to someone who came to our wedding but did not get us a gift or card? My instincts still say yes....but I'm not sure. If I do, do I just write in the card, "Thank you for supporting us on our wedding day?"

2. I need help with the basic wording inside the card. Since we had a honeymoon registry and all of our gifts came from that, I was thinking of having the card say, "Mahalo" instead of thank you. But, I don't know how to word the rest. I was thinking, "Mahalo for your generous contribution to our honeymoon!" ....but thought I should also add something about attending the wedding too. Maybe, "Mahalo for attending our wedding and for your generous contribution to our honeymoon" .....That just sounds long and not "pretty" enough. LOL. And then, if I write that and send it to people who didn't get us a gift, then they would be like, I didn't contribute, etc.....So help with wording? Lol. I put too much thought into things. Undecided

TIA

I didn't. Etiquette-wise, those people have up to a year to give you a gift, so they MIGHT (probably won't, but you never know) give you a gift later, and you can send them a TY then. After writing by hand 50+ TYs, I SOOO didn't want to write additional cards for people who couldn't even bother to sign a Congrats/Well Wishes card for us.... snarky, but that's how I feel.

Every TY card had it's own wording for each guest, I used a lot of these sayings: http://offbeatbride.com/2010/09/copy-n-paste-thank-yous
Imo, it's nice to thank them for coming, hope to see them again (if they are OOT), and since they all bought off your honeymoon registry, they would have put $$ towards a certain event/outing, so I would thank them for that.

I was going to ask #1 on E the other day, but I just read some of their responses to other similar questions. Most say that "thank you for coming" type notes aren't necessary, and I'm with Mgoss: I don't feel like writing any more notes!!

For #2 If you want to include the Hawai'ian phrase, I would put it in the signature part:

    Dear ____________:

Thank you for your generous gift of XYZ. We had a fantastic time on our honeymoon. Fill in with some of the off beat quotes.

    Mahalo,
    M

Bring on carpal tunnel.... at least for me.
#1: I'm writing thank you notes to guests who gave gift or card, and those who attended. About 80% of our guests were from out of town. It really meant a lot that friends and family traveled so far for us.

#2: I like the suggestion that Mgoss wrote. I usually try to personalize all thank you notes. It's not like anyone is going to read someone else's, but that's just me. I do the same thing with holiday cards!

Ooo, I definitely intend to personalize and hand write each thank you card.....

I meant that I was going to have a short phrase printed on the cards (ordering our own from photog) and I didn't know what that phrase should say. Do you think I should just leave it off? Orr?

Regarding your first question ... I sent the non-gift givers postcards (free from VistaPrint). Yes, it's a little passive-aggressive, but I've already gotten a few comments from people saying "I still need to give you a gift!" ;) I normally said, "Thank you for attending our big day. We were glad you were able to celebrate with us [or witness our marriage]. We had so much fun, hope you did too." I know handwriting thank you notes takes awhile (we had 115, plus 30 postcards) ... but these people spent time to travel and celebrate with you. Less than 5 minutes to handwrite a note to people you love seems like it's worth it, IMHO.

The front of our cards/postcards had a wedding picture and our names. I don't think you need to have another phrase printed, except maybe "Thank You", your names and/or or the wedding date. You'll need the text to fill up the note! :)

    Happy writing! :)

If you're having them printed, you could simply put "Mahalo" in a nice script, and then go into greater detail like Tbird87 said! =]
