Washington-Seattle

Life is good.

I just got a call from my doctor...

8 months ago I went in for my anual exam and they found a lump in my breast. I was completely freaked out- and my normal doctor sent me to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance to get a scan done. Well I am only 26 and after the scan they said it didnt look like anything to be worried about but to come back in 6 months. Well I was super procrastinating and I didnt go at 6 months- I waited until about 8. My dr called to harrass me to go so I finally made the appointment.

Well it had gotten bigger. They told me I had to go in for a biopsy, and my grandmother is going through treatment for breast cancer at the same time. So I went in- they just numb you and zap you a few times to take "cores" it wasnt bad but I was sore for the day after. Anyway, after days of tears and reading about how to freaze your eggs (treatment for breast cancer can lead to infertility) I got the call. Its benign! Thank GOD!

Anyway in celebration I went to Ikea and bought the champagne glasses for our upcoming engagement party (the west coast one), which are 6 for 5 dollars. And I updated my bio (which you can see in the link below).

How scary!  SO glad it turned out to be benign!  My grandmother went through that last year.  Fortunately they caught it when it was REALLY small and she's doing just fine.

What a relief yay for you! You deserve to celebrate!

I went through the same thing when I was 18. I found a lump in my breast and went to the drs, while I was there they found another one in the other breast. My doctor assured me that 99% of lumps found at my age were cysts and sent me to get an sonogram done on them. If they were cysts they should have been fluid filled, well mine turned out solid which meant they were tumors. Next step was to get surgery to have them removed. Once again doctors assured me that 99% of cases my age are benign tumors but after being the small % the first time I was freaking out. I looked up things about fertitlity, and cancer treatments and everything just like you and it seemed everywhere around there were signs of cancer. It was all over tv, I saw a girl at the store with cancer, etc. Anyways I got the surgery done, got results back and both were benign.

    Yay for benign tumors.

One thing I want to tell you though is that my doctor gave me the option to get the biopsy the way you did, but he told me that being that mine were tumors even if benign, they could hide lumps that could be malignant in the future and that if we left them in, that each time I changed doctors I would have to go through the whole process again.

I can't believe you waited so long mine was all done in about 2 months, I can't imagine being so stressed for so long!!

Anyways, sorry this is so long!
My thoughts and prayers go out to your grandma that she wins her battle against breast cancer. My grandma also has breast cancer and she is now in remission and everything is going well!
