Fiji Water

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2009/09/fiji-spin-bottle?page=1I have tried this water once, b/c I wanted to see what the big damn deal was.  I haven't bought it since.  My little BIL&SIL though, who always have to be keeping up with the Joneses, drink this and ONLY this water, like it's going out of style.I feel the need to act smug and send them the article.  I'm not going to, but I like feeling like I COULD if I wanted.

I had no idea this was a status symbol. I've never tried it because my cupholders are round, not square, and I'm an Aquafina devotee (when I'm not drinking Kirkland.).

I knew it was.  I buy a bottle of water monthly to refill for that month and I just buy the cheapest one.  I keep meaning to buy one of those aluminum ones, but they are really expensive.  Like I can buy my bottles for 2 years for the price of one of those and I KNOW I would eventually lose it.

I like this water.  But I also like my brita water filter.  No HUGE difference for me.  We have good tasting water round these parts.

Call me crazy, but I have never been able to taste differences between bottled water. Fiji tastes the same to me as Aquafina or Dasani. It's filtered water FFS, it has no impurities in it to make it taste gross. I can taste the difference in tap water.

I'm with V. I get 1 bottle of water (usually poland spring) and just refill it from the water cooler at work. H and I got aluminum water bottles for $5 at Home Goods and once we're back from Burning Man I'll be using that as my water bottle.

Evian used to be the thing or those Voss bottles.  I've never liked Smart Water.  Yes, I've tried a lot of them.

[rul]http://www.youtube.com/v/XfPAjUvvnIc&hl=en&fs=1&Penn and Teller call BS on nearly all bottled water.  Not only is this funny, it's kinda scary how much we've all can be swayed by advertising.I think it's all dumb.  Tap water is clean.  We spend tons of money/taxes on making it clean and safe to use/drink.  We have a plastic jug in the fridge filled with tap water that is kept cold.  I feel bad that I use my plastic bottle and throw it away, but I like having the cheaper option bottle rather than one I'm afraid of losing.

Arizona water has lots of minerals and sulfur. It is clean, and we use it to clean and cook. I can't drink it though. We but gallon jugs which are cheaper than bottles. Also, we'll save a jug or two and fill it up with tap water for the dogs. I keep them in the fridge so the dogs have cold water in the summer. The new house has a dispenser in the fridge. I've got to check the filters, but I think we'll stop buying water and just use that.

varuna-you can get the aluminum water bottles at Bed Bath and Beyond for like 6 bucks. Even less if you collect their coupons.I use these ones, but they're a little pricier. DH beats the hell out of his, though, and it still looks awesome:https://www.ecousable.com/store/store.php/categories/EcoUsable-Stainless-Steel-Water-Bottles--33oz

I'm worried about losing them, CW.  I'm not the best person about keeping track of stuff I carry around that won't fit in my purse.  In all honesty, my sunglasses have to fit in my purse or I don't wear them, b/c I lose them so often.  That's why I just suck it up and live with  my eco-guilt re: my plastic bottles.  :)  I figure I have bags in my car for every store and try not to take plastic bags at all, so that's my balance for that one.

I drink bottled for taste. The tap here doesn't taste good to me, though I know it's clean, and I use it for cooking, cleaning, washing, and adding to other things (like, I drink juices with half water). And yes, I'm one of those freaks who can tell the difference between bottled waters. Arrowhead tastes like tap; Aquafina is slightly sweet; Dasani is sort of a neutral flavor. Most reverse-osmosis, minerals-added waters are fine.

This is one of my very VERY few eco-type-soapboxes.Very little can't be 'fixed' about tap water with filtration.  If you can't do it w/ a refrigerator filter or a in-sink-filter, you can do what we had to do and pay the $$$ for a whole house filtration system--it's still MUCH cheaper (long term) than bottled water. And doesn't dessamate the ecology of 3rd world countries to send you a resource that's already at your fingertips.
