Garbage question

If if own or rent a house where you take the garbage out for collection, do you pay a company or is it included in another utility? We have to pay a garbage company at new house. About how much do you pay a month? The weird thing is that the two companies who provide service to our neighborhood do not offer recycling. Apparently they will, but it will cost more a month. In our current home, recycling and garbage is paid monthly with our water bill to the city.

We pay around $50 for 3 months to the company.  Recycling would cost extra.  I keep meaning to look into it, but so far have been a big fat epic FAIL with that.

The city contracts it out and bills through the water dept.  We have free recycling.

Good to know. I was checking our water bill and I think we pay aabout $10 a month for garbage. New house is $18 a month. It's not like you can shop around...both companies are more or less the same cost for services but I was just curious to know if we were getting completely azz raped.

it's included in our property taxes, so i'm not sure. we get 1 day/week pickup (trash and recycling), the first week of each month we can put out bulk items, and they'll take that as well. We also have a leaf service that comes around late nov - mid dec and vacuums up all of the leaves - you just rake them onto the street/area between sidewalk and street. my inlaws have a 2x weekly pickup (trash and recycling), plus leaf service. I think they pay about $50/month, but they get a discount if they pay in full for the year.

We use our neighbor's trash pick-up, in return for shoveling her driveway in the winter.

That's part of our HOA fees, which are $95/month. That includes recycling, cleaning up common areas, street cleaning when it snows and tow services.

$14/month, for a certain amount of garbage - four cans/bags, I think? That does not include recycling, which would cost us more (and therefore, we compost our paper and toss the rest of it.).
