You can wear the shirt untucked as long as the jacket hits a bit lower than the shirt does.

You don't have to tuck it in.  Buy a fitted longer t-shirt.  I can't find the ones that I picked up from JCP last year that were like 2 for $20, but Target should have some.  But THAT is the basic shape of the outfit you're going for and missing.If it's longer you can rouche (sp) the bottom a bit to hid any "muffin top" you're worried about.  Skipping the belt, since your shirt will be longer, will also keep the muffin top down.  Also, honestly, if you have a muffin top, the jeans need to be a size bigger.  Muffin top usually means your clothes are too small.

I have a problem getting pants where the waist band fits and everything else fits, too. For the jeans to fit in the thigh, I have to sacrifice a good fitting waist line. This also tends to result in saggu butt syndrome as well. This is where I think a good tailor would fit in. I have a pair of jeans that I think will be great after some tailoring and am asking around for recs for a good tailor. I'll present the results of that experience, surely.

I've found that the higher price point jeans (7, Citizens, Joes, etc) have less of the gap situation. They can be found at discount stores, it just takes some time.

Yeah....I've tried investing in higher end jeans, but have found the best ones for me come from effing TJMaxx. Jeans, like bras and bathing suits take time, patience, tears, and money.

Min, I'm also a fan the high end jeans, but my new favorite pair is an always skinny distressed pair from the Gap.They re-created their denim line and made it 1000X better.

ls - GAP hates me. I can never find a pair of pants that fit there. Strictly tops.
