Wedding Woes

S/o buffets

I tried Golden Corral for the first time a few weeks ago. OMG heaven.I love it. I'm still having dreams about it. If we had a local one of those, I'd be the size of a house because I'd just be sitting at the end of the donut conveyer all day, every day.

You mean The Golden Trough?Yeah, I'm judging you hard core for this.  Although I do love the soft serve bar.

That sounds about right. I'd guess the average patron weight was in the 300lb range. At least.mmmm, but it was so good.

WHAT?!?!?  What exactly was your favorite part?  The flavorless overcooked green beans or the fake butter instant potatoes?  Jello?

Is this anything like the Old Country Buffet?

The concept of trough eating dismays me. At least keep the troughs hidden in the back so I can imagine my meal was prepared just for me. This may be why we don't eat out that often.

In our area they are pretty good, many steps above the Ryan type buffets.

Ww, we have one that will work for you then.  Lamberts, home of the throwed rolls.  You eat all of your plate and they ask you if you want another one.  If you do, they bring it out to you. Also, they walk around with big bowls of fried okra and ask if you want any.  If you do, they put a paper towel on the table and put a big ole scoop of fried okra on it.I have only ever been there once.  That was QUITE enough.

I'm confused about these troughs.  Are they what they sound like?

It's just a buffet, Kuus.  We just called it The Golden Trough b/c people look like pigs lining up at the trough to eat at the buffet lines.  They also tend to behave as mannerly as pigs do as well.

Lambert's in awesome.  I love that they actually throw the rolls at you.  I'm sorry we only went there once when we still lived in southern Illinois.

Blech.  The grease I could feel on the laminated plastic menu filled with chicken fried steak and hog's jowls was enough to do me in.  The okra was just the icing on the cake.  And I don't care for food flying at my head.If this makes me a food snob SO BE IT!!!!!  ;)

But as I recall, the food at Lamberts is actually good.  Most trough feeder places aren't.  I have a long standing theory that I could open a restaurant with an actual trough, charge $5 per person for large spoon and/or straw rental for an hour with which to access the giant trough, and people would line up around the block.

I don't care if it makes me a pig, I love the Souplantation. Soup, salad, bread, and pasta. It's like a carb lovers paradise.

Chicken gizzards too, Ww.It just makes me think of that Boondocks episode where the Mexican kitchen worker is yelling that Southern cooking was based on the refuse the white people wouldn't eat and it was nasty and no one should be eating jowls.

When I was a kid living in MI there was a chain called Sveden Haus, they had the best prime rib carving station. I could eat my weight in it!

You'd be a hit, Zsa. Real Amuricans don't like yer fancy plates n' napkins n' whatnot. I mean, now they make yogurt that you can eat with one hand. Yeah.

Varnua, I can only conclude that the *your town* Lamberts is inferior to the Sikeston original.  Ali, I'm guessing you went to the one in Sikeston, too?

Actually, the food is suppose to BE good.  I just can't do the damned atmosphere and I won't eat most of that nasty food.

Oh and the old people.  You have to understand, this is where all of the Branson tour buses stop.  Trying to get in there w/out being over 65 and part of a 90 person group is insane.

There are no Golden Corrals or Lamberts anywhere near me.

Yup, I went to Lamberts in Sikeston.  I had sausage & sauerkraut- it was pretty good.  You definitely go for the whole "experience" than the food.  The rolls were delicious.  They don't have to throw the rolls at you if you don't want.  We walked in and were kinda like "WTF is going on here?!"

certain jobs = good diets.Working at a busser @ bill Knapps?  excellent diet for me.Working at Old Country Buffet?  My baby sis lost more weight than I thought possible.  Apparently all-you-can-eat is NOT a spectator sport.

Yes, only three.  For those who haven't been, it's like a circus inside.  There are the old people moving like snails, but there is a piano player and lots of yelling and flying food. My sister took her in-laws there when they were in town for her wedding.  They left slightly horrified thinking that this is just the way all people eat in the midwest.

The people watching is EXCELLENT!  It's not a buffet- you order off a menu like a normal person.  I got the googy eyes from some country boys.Have you ever been to The Hickory Log in Dexter, MO, around Christmas?  That's another experience.

It's a regular menu, but if you finish your plate and you want another plate, they bring you another one.  So it IS all you can eat, but not a buffet.i don't like People of Walmart as dining companions.

I barely ate half of my plate- I can't imagine eating more than one plate.  Of course, I had like 3 rolls and lots of fried okra beforehand.
