Random question

If you're someone receiving treatment for a rare form of cancer (so rare you had to move to an area where the one and only doctor is) and are getting chemo, on major drugs, etc. are you allowed (by the doctors I mean) to drink?I'm asking because Man and I met this guy two nights ago, then saw him again last night. He told us his story but he's drinking beer (a pitcher to himself last night), etc. We couldn't figure out if that was weird, he was making something up (which I thought of because he reminds me of an IC friend that did the same thing - I think I told you about him), or we just didn't know isht about cancer. What do you all think?

Re: Random question

  • I have no clue, but let me just say that if I had a rare form of cancer that was most likely terminal, I would enjoy life to the fullest.

  • PMeg probably has the best answers.  However, if someone went to the lengths to move for treatment I doubt they'd be willing to mess it up with beer. On the other hand, if there is little chance of survival who cares what he does?
  • I'm more surprised that he feels well enough to be out drinking during chemo...which I guess is good for him.  It's probably not the best idea, but he's got so many other chemicals in his system that adding some alcohol won't really make too much of a difference.
  • He did say on the day after his treatment, he's shot. He doesn't do anything but on off days he does. I want to be inspired by his story, I just got burned once before so I figured I'd put it to the jury. ;)

  • Yeah, it could definitely be true...my Mom's going through chemo now and it's once every three weeks.  Right now it's a milder form of it, but when she did the hard-core treatment she felt terrible for days afterward and then by the end of the cycle she would be feeling really good.  He might just be making the best of the times he is feeling good.
  • My father's FI (now deceased) was diagnosed with brain cancer. The pain would be intense and depressing. She definately drank some when we went out to lunch even. I would probably wonder if it was made up or not, but I have seen someone with cancer that would drink.I think it happens more than most would think..

  • Sweet. Then I'm choosing to believe him and let him inspire me. Thanks y'all.
