S/o grade school and hs

A childhood friend of mine died Wednesday. He killed himself. According to the news stories, it was a police shoot out, after his car was pulled over for suspicion of being involved in several robberies.  Per the family and passenger in the vehicle (not involved), he shot himself once pulled over. The police saw/heard the shot and shot back. Apparently he was bi-polar and hadn't been taking his meds for awhile. He had a heavy gambling addiction, lost all of his and his wife's money a few months ago, and was told that morning by her that she had changed her mind about working things out with him and wanted a divorce. They had 2 kids. This is so freaking sad for me, and has been a tough couple of days. He was like my little brother growing up, through the start of hs. Just always a really funny and outgoing kid, too smart for his own good. It just breaks my heart that he ended up there, and felt that there was no other way/wasn't of sound mind to make that call in the first place. He was an organ donor, and as of today his organs will save 55 people, and his marrow and tissue will go to help another 500 people. This is the story I want to see run, not to mention that it wasn't a "police shoot out," etc. This does not excuse the robberies, but it just pains me a lot to see him portrayed in this light. Sorry to be a downer.

Wow.  I feel so sorry for everyone involved.  I can't imagine what his family and that passenger are going through right now.

I'm sorry Ilove, that is tragic for all involved. Even though he is gone, his decision to be a donor will do so much for all those people.

ilove, I'm so sorry to hear this.  ::hugs::You have the right to feel how you do, it's natural.  I sure hope that people remember the good about him, rather than the demise in the end.::prayers for his family and friends::

  • Thanks. I'm very seriously considering a letter to the editor, to suggest doing more investigation into the story. At the very least, they need to know how many lives he's helping/saving, and yeah, I want the truth to come out about how everything went down.

  • Yeah Min, he did. He's been very supportive, and remembers the exact "in shock" feeling I was going through on Wednesday. He's let me talk, a LOT, about him and all the things I rememeber from our childhood/teenage years. His ex, a friend of mine, started a FB memorial page to him. People have been posting pics and sharing memories of him. It's been very hard to look at/read, but also kind of cathartic.
