WDWWT?

11-09-2009 at 1:17 PM gwenhwyvar... Joined on 10-26-2009 Escondido, CA 4 Posts 90 Points --> Frustration . . . Advice? -->  My hunny and I have been TTC for almost a year (I got of BCP last December after about 10 years straight) and only in the past two cycles have I had "normal" (32 days) cycles. Before that I had them as long as 50-some days. Hopefully we'll have a better chance now. Most frustrating part? We're not married and I'm afraid my parents and family would be judgemental, so we're not telling them we're TTC . . . But when it does happen I don't know if I'm going to tell them we were trying or if we'll just say it was an "accident" so we don't catch crap . . . But then it would diminish all of the heartache and hard work we put into getting KU?? Any advice or suggestions? I don't want to tell my kid they were an "accident" when they weren't and we worked so hard to bring them into this world. You would think as a 27 year old I would be able to just tell my parents right? It's just scary because I don't want them to be disappointed in me . . .************My response was that if she was even considering passing her child off as an accident to appease the parents, she wasn't emotionally ready/mature to TTC.and also, if they are ready to commit to a child, whyTF can't they commit to each other?  is that too narrow-minded for this day and age?

Honestly, I can't wrap my brain around TTC and NOT being married.  There are simply so many legal protections that come with being married and having kids that I can't understand why someone wouldn't want that for their children and themselves. I can deal with finding out you're knocked up accidentally and then not getting married.

So does she think a kid will get him to marry her or does she just think, at 27, that her time is running out?

I agree. I guess I could see not getting married if you have some objection to it but at the same time, it makes things way easier. I'm not sure why the family needs to know in general that they are trying to get pregnant, or that they would need to know that after the baby was born. It's none of their business.

marriage =/= commitment, and commitment =/= marriage, but I agree on the whole, "if you can't be straight with your parents you're not old enough to conceive" thing.

I think you hit the nail on the head as to her maturity.  People have their reasons for not marrying.  I won't comment without more info.

I'll be narrow-minded with you. I think it's asinine to TTC without being married. Also, does she really think she'll catch less crap by telling her family she was irresponsible about BC? File this under too dumb to reproduce.

Also (and this is something I've noticed a lot lately, not just in this post), when did sensible and responsible come to mean judgmental, and stupid and willing to support others in the stupid start to mean open-minded?
