If family stays with you, do you make concessions?

If you have family members stay with you, do you do anything to accomodate them? We've just started having people stay at our house, since we now have space. DH is always wanting to get special food (his grandpa is into certain health things and he wanted to buy that). He thinks we should call people a week before they come to ask if they need anything. I'm not talking about 12 towels a day nonsense. Just curious.

I do make special food, and I don't mind a bit. Buying new sheets is where I'd draw the line. Can't those people bring their own damn sheets?

I try to have something diet available for FFIL because he's diabetic, and if I feed him I make sure it's not all something that will put him in a sugar coma. They're really the only people that come to our house though. Nobody stays. Well, my brother has a few times. I just hide anything that can get online when he comes.

Not that we have room really for anyone to stay over but I usually ask about food they like. Our overnight guests have to sleep on the couch (it's not even a hide-a-bed). When we get a house, I don't anticipate giving in to ridiculous demands. I will continue asking about food and beverages and that's about it.

yep. For example, my parents drink coffee. TONS of coffee. All day, every day.  DH drinks none, and I'll have maybe a cup a week - at work, because it's free and convenient.  So we always have coffee stuffs for them.  They also eat differently than we do (my dad rotates among about 3 meals. My mom has lost 75 pounds on weight watchers and always needs tons of salad ingredients, plain oatmeal, and light yogurt.)  So I try to have all of that stuff on hand. It'll be interesting now that our guest room is a nursery. We used to have a fairly nice guest space, but for the forseeable future, any guests will be on an air mattress.

I usually buy special food (like OJ, we never drink juice, but I buy it for guests).  Nothing overly expensive or difficult.  And I try to get the cat hair out of the chairs. Nothing like SIL who gives us her room and leaves chocolates and presents and welcome cards for us on the night stand.  I am a horrible host and don't return such favors.  Just be glad you have clean towels.

I get supplying people with food if they have dietary restrictions. I don't make certain food items because I know that not everyone loves Indian or Chinese or whatever.

I always try to have a meal plan that accommodates everyone, the house clean, fresh towels, sheets, etc.  But I'm not a hotel.  And if you're saving $100+ per night by staying with me, you'd better be a good houseguest. That crap down there is ridiculous.  They are BAD houseguests.

Most family is in the area, but when SIL housesits H always asks if there is anything she wants at the grocery store.  When SIL and BIL came up to my parent's summer house we bought 2% milk because BIL drank that, even though everyone else drank skim or 1% (I thought that was ridiculous of BIL to request though)

I make sure they have food and drink available, clean towels and sheets, and a clean bathroom.  Anything else is bonus.

I forgot a couple. BFF has stayed over (when she was too tired/drunk to drive the hour home) and I did make coffee in the morning (I don't make coffee at home) for her, and for LS who stayed a weekend I had some kid-friendly snacks, which she didn't touch.
