Wedding Woes

An after marriage question for you ladies

If you changed your name, how long did it take you to feel like your new name was your real name, not some alias you were using around new people you just met and expected to never see again?

Over a year for me.  Maybe closer to 18 months.

Ha, not yet. I've been married almost two months and I still catch myself signing or saying the wrong last name. This is worse than changing the date after a new year.

We're coming up on three years, and most of the time, I don't remember my name. Especially if people use "Mrs.", because I'm strictly a "Ms."

Maybe a month or so.  I kept my maiden name as a second middle name, so it wasn't a huge change.

Meh. I never had a big issue with it. My name changed in 1st grade though, so a name change wasn't a big deal at 25.

I haven't done the official name change yet. It's a more complicated process when you live across the country from the state you got married in, and I've been procrastinating. I also haven't re-registered my car or gotten a CA license yet.

I moved my maiden name to middle, too. You know what else I have trouble getting used to? Being a married woman, period. Nothing in the relationship really changed, so every time I see a post asking for advice from married ladies, I still think "dammit, why am I always excluded?"

Mrs. MinM lastname = H's mom to me. Dr. MinM lastname = seems more like me, but not all the way, and it has has been over a year since I changed my name. I kindasorta wished I hadn't, but I felt it needed to be done.

Well, now that you  mention it .. my maiden is my middle name now, so pseudo-hyphenated!

Just the other day I used my maiden name.  I still have some bills in that name.  We've been married 4+ years.

We're going to have that problem, because I signed up for all the utilities and had to use my maiden name since I haven't changed it yet. This is part of the reason I'm putting off getting a job. I don't wand to have to change email addresses a few weeks in.

I'm with 6.  I still have some bills in that name and find myself logging in to various sites with my "old name login," if you will. It's getting better, though, as more and more people start to know me by this name.

My email is still with my maiden name. Not to mention all of my student loan information. Everything else is under my married name. Sometimes it's a little weird for me. My married name is alliterative which throws me. Not to mention I went from being at the front of the alphabet to the end of it.A couple of weeks ago I was out with my ILs and someone said "Mrs. Thistletwat" and we both looked up. It was a little weird.

My initials didn't change so I sometimes catch myself wanting to write my maiden name. H and I opened a joint credit card account well after I had changed my name. The cc shows my married name but the receipt prints out with my maiden name. It throws me for a loop every time.
