The thing I hate almost as much as old people

Shabby chic and in particular- people who paint and distress furniture.

I have been scouting Craigslist, Goodwill, garage sales, etc for a piece of furniture for my entry way. I don't want to pay a lot and I'm completely amenable to refinishing and some minor repair work.

Lord help me but every 3rd piece I look at painted and distressed. And it's horrible. I can tell from the piece that it would probably be lovely with out the paint. Or the piece needed work but they didn't do it. I hate it. And I really want to call the people selling the furniture and yell at them. It's making me stabby.

    One other thing. There is a woman in my area that paints furniture. She has been featured on Design*Sponge, Apartment Therapy, etc. She is a professional (paint sprayer, etc). So I see two things- people try to replicate her work and fail miserably, and she scoops all the pieces I want because she's a SAHM and has time time to buy furniture as soon as its listed. Stab stab stab stab.

    Word.  It used to be some a kind rebellion against the overdesigned, overpricey, interior decorator wet dream.  Now it IS an overdesigned, overpricey, interior decorator wet dream.
