Cleaning help please

Sometime in the last couple of days 6let spilled milk under a chair.  We only found it because it started to turn rancid.  I sopped up the milk that wasn't crusted, sprayed it with resolve, set out some Arm and Hammer, sprayed febreeze, and now I've got the arm and hammer worked into the spot ready to vacuum.  Is there anything else I can do to get rid of the smell?

I have a playdate today and hopefully a showing soon.

  • Burn the house down?

Everything you're doing is what I know of to do to get rid of an odor.
  • I'd love to burn it down so we don't have to sell it. DH said there was some carpet odor stuff at the hardware store so we're headed there shortly.  Seriosuly it's almost worse than the cat piss.  At least with that it was just on bedding that I could wash.
  • You could also try white vinegar on the spot.

I bet that milk is down and dried into the pad at this point.  I'd SATURATE the area with diluted cleaner, let it set and then go back over it with a steam cleaner to soak up the funky water/cleaner/milk.  That's terrible.  Can you trade 6let in for a better model?  ;)

  • Nature's  miracle, for pets, IMO, is the best stuff for icky carpet smells.

If you don't find that, I'd usse vinegar--it'll further 'curdle' the milk but it won't make it any more rancid than it already is--it will just make milk that might remain more solid (kinda like how adding lemon juice to milk  makes it chunky but doesn't make it sour).
I'd probbly brush in baking soda, dump on vinegar, clean up fiz, re brush, re dump.
    PITA.
  • Never thought of vinegar.  I did get up as much liquid as possible, then saturated with the resolve a couple of times. I scrubbed in a whole box of arm and hammer.  I bought an odor absorber and the woolite scrubby stick thingy.  I don't care about stains because the new owners will replace the carpet and our chaise covers the spot.  If the woolite doesn't work I'll hit it with the vinegar and get more arm and hammer.  I hope the woolite works though.

I like my 6let model a whole bunch.  I'll save the trade in for his teen years.
  • I second the pet odor remover. You're dealing with a protein based odor, just like with urine, and you need to have those enzymes to remove it.

I personally wouldn't use vinegar on it, because like the previous poster mentioned, its probably into the pad by now, and would further curdle it, making it that much harder to deal with in the underlying surface.

How far is it from the wall? Any way you could pull up the carpet a little and get under there?

Otherwise, vinegar was my suggestion. Just dump a bunch on there and let it soak in and evaporate.  Can't hurt.
