Wedding Woes

Vaughan and Buckner SCAM

I am beside myself. Ordered a dress from a company called Vaughan and Buckner couture. Found a dress by this company on theknot. I ordered my dress by phone on November 15, 2011. The woman, Gwen, who seems to be the only employee there, took my order and said I was all set. Two weeks later, no dress. So I called. Three days after I left 4 messages asking about my dress, Gwen called me back. Supposedly her "credit card machine was broken" so she hadn't yet shipped my dress. She said she would send my dress the first business day of the new year. It is now January 20th and still no dress. Although apparently the credit card machine got fixed since I was charged the full dress price! I've called and emailed endlessly. No one answers the phone and no one returns my emails or voicemails. I am so furious! I plan on telling everyone to beware and DO NOT order from this company.

Re: Vaughan and Buckner SCAM

  • Wait a dress in 2 weeks??
Call your credit card and get your money back.
  • Talk to somebody besides Gwen and find out what the deal is; I'm getting that you don't have much faith since it was a store you hadn't seen for an item you've never touched and your money is gone so it's making you uncomfortable.

I would be a bit worried by now, but not panicking; it's reasonable for a wedding dress to take this long and it's a chance you took for an over-the-phone vendor.

Take a breath, get a tracking number, talk to somebody besides Gwen and try to relax. I'm pretty confident this will work out and if it doesn't, be prepared to talk to your bank about getting your money back.

  • If they're dodging your calls, it's time to talk to your card issuer (either your bank or your credit card company,) and start the process of filing a fraudulent charge dispute.  Write down as much as you can remember about what you were promised, including original arrival date, new shipping date, any excuses given, when the charge hit, who you spoke to, when you spoke, and what was said, etc.

  • BTW I checked out that site and it does seem kinda fishy...maybe you should start talking to the bank.

Sorry to hear about your dress troubles.Contact your credit card company NOW and start the process. Since you have no dress, it should be relatively easy to get your refund. Once you get the dress, it can get tricker.

I also find the site really fishy, especially the "Most Important Decision Ever" section. And I find it weird that the designer Gwendolyn named a dress after herself. She's probably the "Gwen" your talking to.

  • The three times I've spoken to a person, it was Gwen. And those three times, she didn't answer the phone when I called.  She called me back. She said that I should get the dress within 10 business days of shipment.  She told me that in November December and in January.  The infuriating thing is that she hasn't responded.  It did take her 4 days to call me back when there was the original credit card issue, so I get that she's not exactly the most on-top-of-it store owner, but it's been weeks! And at least 7 or 8 emails and voicemails each.  The problem is...I REALLY want the dress!  Do you think the dress even exists?? I want to contact my credit card company, but I'd rather have the dress. Maybe I'll write one final email and send one final voicemail that she has until the end of the week to respond.  After that, I'm calling my credit card company.  Right?

  • Is it the Gwendolyn dress????

  • Yes, beautiful, right? I'm so disappointed that I'll never get it. Would have been perfect for me. I haven't seen anything like it anywhere else in my price range.
