  • You didn't go to Drexel, did you? I automatically assume that's where all Philly engineers went (I did, so it's not totally random lol)

  • no. Pitt. I'm from Pittsburgh. did you go to PSU?
  • haha no, I grew up in Jersey right outside of Philly, went to Drexel, then got a job out in Lancaster, so I went from west philly to bumblefrack overnight, lol.

  • yeah my SIL lives out in the Lancaster area. not much to do there unless you like barn raising and outlet shopping.
  • I spend most of my time trying to understand that it's safe to go outside when it's dark. And marveling at the fact that there are cows within a mile of my apartment.

  • I'm an engineer from Lancaster!  Okay so I'm not an engineer anymore and it's Lancaster, Ohio.  I'm just bored.
  • what it is with "Lancaster" and the Amish?

believe it or not, Lancaster PA has a lot of gang activity, but mainly in the "downtown" area.
  • Don't do that, 6, I got so excited. Lancaster PA has no female engineers. Its sad.

  • The Ohio one is actually named after the PA one.  Soon enough I'll be in civilization though.  Soon enough.

  • Isn't Ohio where they have that Amish beard-cutting scandal? That's kind of like a gang.

  • The beard scandal was in Ohio.

My kid was TERRIFIED by Amish men when he was little.  I had to leave Aldi because he was freaking out so bad.
  • is that why he started carrying the curling iron - for protection?
  • haha your kid carries a curling iron? That would be appropriate in the area where I grew up - all the hasidic jewish men with the curls on either side of the beard. I don't know how that would help, that's just what it made me think of.

  • hahahah.  Scare them with electricity!  And zippers.

And yes he likes to put a curling iron in his backpack.  He has 2- one is the weedwacker and one is the leaf blower.  He packs them up with his hammer and tape measure and off we go.  We even had him carry his own diapers and wipes in there.
  • Well, sounds like you either have a future engineer or hairdresser on your hands. For your sake, I hope it's a hairdresser ;)

So speaking of scaring people with electricity - last week the vet asked if my dog was Amish - I said I had no idea, he was from a shelter. Apparently he looks like the dogs lots of Amish kids in the area have. The vet said the easiest way to find out was to turn on the lights after dark and see if he got scared, lol.

  • I love your vet!  My DH and I are both engineers so I have a feeling creativity might be a little low around this house.  I'm just hoping to get through kindergarten and into calculas where I can help.
  • haha my fi is an engineer, too. Our children have no hope.
