Wedding Woes

parents and other old people

I usually don't feel like my parents are that old, but I just had to walk my dad through logging his SS out of FB so my dad could log on.  He didn't even know that that was what he needed to do.  He was all, "I wanted to see the pictures, but it only has [SS]'s information."

I really hope he never has a reason to use an actual public computer.  He'll probably order something from Amazon and leave all of his CC info on there.

Ha!  My aunt has been using a cane since her early 50s but she has an airport specific condition.  Her instability disappears when she won't be getting advance boarding or a little car to drive her to the luggage claim out of the deal.

I'm starting to see it with my mom at 62. She is still hip and happening, but there are things she does or doesn't do anymore that shows her age.

I also make sure she goes to the doctor. She told me she has the colon of a 25 year old. Yes, I keep up with things. We must keep her as healthy for as long as possibe.

My dad is a "special" case. Needless to say, there are seriously changes that are brewing and my sister and I are enlisting the help of both my mom's brothers and my dad's brother.

My dad doesn't even have a computer or use one.  When I tell him to click on "the x" to get out, he doesn't see it.

That's because you're standing up dad.  You need to see the entire frame.

You know when I all most lost it? When she called for me to tell her how to do an attachment.

    1. She doesn't follow instructions.
    2. It's kinda hard to see her screen on the phone.
    3. She is a nervous little lady.

This all equals to me getting a headache after said phone call. I'm having flashbacks just thinking about it.

My dad had triple bypass at 56. Mom and Dad are both 63 and between his heart and her 3 pack a day habit, it's quite scary. They are hip, like Nola's mom (they even email and text!) but their mortality is on my mind more and more each day.

I forgot about this one....my dad called me once to see if I could help with an error he was getting in MS Word.  He said it was saying something about high voltage.  I was very confused.  I told him it sounded like a virus and he swore that his security software was up to date, etc.  Then my mom walked into the room, looked over his shoulder and pointed out that it wasn't an error message, it was a window open in the background where he had been researching air compressors.  He was just seeing the title bar.  SMDH

and this is why when grandpa-IL called the Mr. for the 47th time about how to put the CD into the computer, he said "corner first".
grandpa said OK and hung up.

45 min later, the phone call was worth the headache.

My Mom must be living in Korea, because she texts EVERYTHING. Including, "Grandpa is in the hospital."

I sent her this reply, 'THIS IS NOT TEXT APPROPRIATE INFORMATION. CALL ME."

My dad can do exactly what he needs to do for work.  He has no desire beyond that.  My parents are still really physically and mentally active at 64 abd 65.  When dad broke 4 ribs they were dumbfounded he was on no meducation at all.

The ILs are in a very different place.  FIL had an aortic valve replacement, has a hernia and a bad knee.  sMIL has early onset dimentia.  MIL has had a knee and hip replaced and needs the other knee and hip done. sFIL has had gastric bypass, a tummy tuck, and now needs knees (and is gaining the weight back).

Oddly MIL's 84 yo grandma just completed a 1 mile swim for diabetes, bowls twice a week and has no health issues.

My dad texts and emails; my mother refuses. Which is a shame, because we could send pics and videos of Bacon to her all the time if she'd just learn to use YouTube.

She also believes every scare she sees on Oprah. She gave me a 20-minute lecture about how pedophiles were going to jump out of the computer at Bacon because we let her play games at PBSKids. Apparently, the simple act of being on the internet sends up a pedo-signal, like they're crazy molesty Batmen or something. She also thinks I shouldn't be on FB or here because people will steal my identity.

My parents are pretty young and with it.

My dad and mom (55 and 54) are both good with texting and email, dad is slightly better. Mom can online shop with the best of them. Neither have any health problems, other than my dad being overweight. He had the gastric bypass about 13 years ago, and he still struggles with weight. My mom drives like a maniac.

MIL and FIL (55 and 53) are different, but both have a grasp on technology. MIL of course had the AVM and brain surgery 10 years ago, so is loopy at times to say the least. FIL is in pretty good shape.

Neither of them are very good drivers, however.
