question for the married ladies - particularly those who got married outside of Washington

So I just learned that in Michigan, when you sign the license/certificate after the wedding, you are supposed to sign your married name, not your maiden name.  This makes the name change process much more simple.

I'm getting married in Michigan, but will be changing my name in Washington.  Did you married ladies sign your married name or maiden name?  what are WA laws?

eek! My situations a bit reversed. I got married in Washington, and was told to sign it my maiden name. I'll be doing the name change in North Carolina. Wish I could be more help....

sofia, who told you to do it that way?  if it was someplace in Washington maybe I should do that? or was it in north carolina?

I got married in WA, I live in WA, and I'm not changing my name.  So I won't be much help here.

I just wanted to chime in and say that the state/county worker specifically told me to sign my maiden name on the certificate when we were getting the license, and my officiant reiterated that.

huh okay.  Thanks for the info.  I think I need to do more research on this then!
