Wedding Woes

How was your 4th?

It was HOT here.  The neighborhood picnic was a ton of fun.  The kids spent forever in the bounce house.  When it was over I felt like poo so I played inside with M2 while DH started cutting up some of our trees.

It stormed last night and is thundering now so I think today might be a lazy kind of day.

We left Buffy w/ my folks for a longish motorcycle ride, then came back and BBQed w/ my parents.
    All good.

Also?  we have flooring to install.
The Mr. ripped out MIL and FIL's flooring and helped w/ general home improvement crap.  The floor they don't want *SHOULD* be enough to re-floor our kitchen and entryway.  Which SO need it.
    Woohoo!

  • Also hot here.  Our city does fireworks on the 3rd every year and we missed them, as we were on our way home from a baseball game 2 hours away.

We did all the fireworks our state will allow in our yard yesterday with the kids and then had a baseballl game in the evening.

I'm actually pretty proud of myself and how tolerant to the heat I have become.  It doesn't bother me much anymore.  However, I do keep an eye on the kids and make sure they're hydrated and sunblocked since we're outside for hours on end every day.
  • It was hot here as well.  I think it got up to 98 (real temp) but it was still a good day. I'd say I did marginal learning to drive, we had dinner at HuHot (how patriotic) and sat out and watched fireworks.  I'm one tired lady.

  • Pretty uneventful.

We took the kiddo over to my IL's Tuesday night so he could go to a parade with my SIL, nieces, and IL's.  I had no desire to take DefConn out to a parade with it being so hot.

    DH had to work.

So DefConn and I hung out in the morning and early afternoon.  We played and napped and shared a ham sandwich.  After lunch we went to the store and then headed over to my IL.  But they weren't home yet, so I went and got us a blizzard from DQ and we sat in my IL's front yard, in the shade,  and enjoyed it while we waited.  We spent the rest of the day hanging out inside.

    Didn't you have a race O?

    Yay for new flooring!

I swear I'm less heat tolerant than ever.  Somehow I managed to work in a papermill (with jeans, steel toes, hard hat) with 6let and now I'm dying in shorts and a tank.

And to prove I'm not a terrible cook- I made a broccoli slaw for the picnic.  DH was carrying the bowl back to the house with 2 niehgbors in tow.  They wanted the recipe.  Take that MIL and your chicken schit sandwiches.  She swears either my mom or I made that and I swear neither of us will even eat it let alone make it.

  • I did.  I forgot to mention it...heh.

It was hot.  I tried my best, I enjoyed it regardless.  I finished ~3 minute slower than last year.  Which isn't horrible, since I haven't run a step since June 2.  And I didn't die.  WIN!

  • It was very hot and low key.  H and I watched 3 episodes of Shameless and then he went to work.  I went to Kohls and found some cute clearance earrings and sandals.  I spent the rest of the afternoon/evening in the AC plowing through the dvr.  H watched the city fireworks out the window at work.

  • My 4th of July was weird.  My town did their parade and everything last weekend and we weren't home yet.  And there is a fireworks ban right now.  And I have a cold (what?).  So I spent all day at my volunteer job because my back-up didn't come in at all while I was away last week.  Then H and I ate some re-heated hamburgers from earlier in the week and watched the Boston fireworks on tv while I blew my nose.  I think this is how 90 year olds spend the 4th of July.

  • Also, I just went down to congratulate my uncle on his good finish, and he showed me a picture of me running with my belly hanging out of my shirt.  BAH!  classy

You don't have a belly to hang, you lying liar who lies.
  • No...for reals.  I do.  It cracks me up...I have extra skin/flab that likes to just jingle around.  It's awesome.

  • We went to a community parade near downtown Columbus that's known for being totally irreverent.   It was great, except for the extreme heat and the sweat dripping all over me.   Fortunately, about 20 minutes into the parade, DD lied and said she needed to go potty.  I jumped at the opportunity to go back to our friend's house nearby.  When we got back to the house she said that she didn't need to go potty after all.  Apparently, DD has already learned the art of the little white lie.   We sat in friends A/C'd house and chilled while the rest of our group sweated their arses off.
Once everyone came back, we ordered pizza and started our Hard Cider tasting party.   Everyone brought different types of cider to share.   It was fun, even if I did only get to drink a little sip of each because I was driving.   My favorite was J.K.'s Scrumpy - an organic farmhouse cider out of Michigan and it was AH-MAZING.  It was smooth and tasted just like regular, fresh non-alcoholic cider.  I can see me getting drunk off of this really quick.
While we drank, we watched the hot dog eating contest and got totally grossed out.
We went home at about 6 and relaxed until it was time to go to our neighborhood's fireworks show.   I pink puffy <3 fireworks, but I didn't even want to go because it was so hot.   DH convinced me that it had cooled off.   It had not - but I'm glad we went anyway.
They started the fireworks about 15 minutes early because there was a storm coming in.   As soon as they ended, a lightening storm started.   We ran back to our car, and got home before the rain hit.   But then right when DH started reading DD her bedtime story, the electricity went out.   I remained calm on the outside, but on the inside I was freaking the F out because I had just restocked our refridgerator the night before.   I am not cool with rebuying food multiple times.   Fortunately, the electricy came back on a little after midnight.   So at least I got a little sleep.   although you couldn't tell by how hard I'm dragging today.
  • OMG-that hotdog eating contest is DISGUSTING.  The juicy bits just exploding all over!?!?  *gag*  HORRIFIED.  We pay people to do this or see it?

  • I was fortunate to miss the festivities with my family yesterday. Instead, I sat around the house watching bad Nigerian movies (as if there are anything but bad ones) while my boyfriend worked from home from 6-3. Afterwards, we went to the store and immediately came back to the coolness of our house because it was balls hot yesterday. I watched the Nsahville fireworks streaming on the Internet and then was kept up all night by our Golden Retriever being terrified by other fireworks exploding around us. Sigh.

  • we had some of the families from my mom group over for a BBQ/pool party. It was hot, but overcast for most of the day (we have good shade and a covered porch, too) so wasn't super uncomfortable. i made burgers, hot dogs, and chicken. We have a ton of corn on the cob, potato salad, and pasta salad left over, so we'll be set with leftovers for a bit. I brined the chicken (we'll call it strawberry lime brine) - and it turned out really good. not quite as good as the recipe i use for turkey legs (they taste like the ones at the Ren Faire) but still good.

as long as we're not having a severe drought, fireworks are "legal" in TX. I think most of the HOAs ban them, but nobody really cares. We didn't buy any (although might for New Years) - so DK and I just sat out in our hot tub and watched all of the fireworks the neighbors were setting off. some of them put on a really goos show.
  • We layed around most of the day in bed. Since I was gone over the weekend, it was our weekend together. We watched out city's fire work show from our balcony. I guess for all the b1tching I do all year about our 3rd floor apartment, it comes in handy one night out of the year.

lol @ watching a hot dog eating contest. blech.

we were undecided about what we were doing until about 4pm yesterday. we ultimately went to a friend's place and then to watch fireworks.
  • We had a little bbq. H made pulled pork on the grill and I did potato salad and a flag cake. GayH and his other straight wife, H's BFF, and Hot Choir Guy all came out and we sat around talking and eating and playing Apples to Apples.

It was hot here, too, though what was really terrible was the humidity. I haven't looked it up, but it feels like it's got to be 20 or 30% - which I know for some of you is nothing, but for those of us in the high semi-desert is just soupy.

And the entire state is on fire, so of course what are people in the neighborhood doing last night? Lighting fireworks. I live near ass holes, apparently. Thank God they didn't burn anything else down, or I wouldn't be typing to you now.
