Is it too late for Engagement Party?

As long as you and FI don't host it (your mom could), I think it's fine.  Maybe one or two people will side-eye it, but who cares!

It looks like you are having a very long engagement, so I say have one now if you want to!

I think since your wedding isn't until 2012, you can still have one.

I think it would be a little odd, honestly. Engagement parties are typically held to celebrate the new engagement. In your case it's not-so-new.

I've been trying to tell my mother the same thing, but she's a bit sore with the fact that she didn't get to throw the party. She'll get over it.

My mom did the same thing. I just told her that if she wanted to throw an engagement party, she needed to do it a long time ago. She got over it when she realized she could help host the wedding itself.
