...and a penny in your shoe?

So I was talking with my Gram the other day about my something old, new, borrowed, and blue, and she goes "and a penny in your shoe!" 

She then asked me if I had a penny yet.  She said I was supposed to have a penny with my wedding year on it to put in my shoe for good luck.  I looked it up online and saw that there are variations of this with sixpence/pennies and you can do two (one for the year you were born, one for the year FI was born), or just a penny you find, etc.

Anyway, yesterday my Gram ends up giving me a 2012 penny that she got.  She apprently was asking around to everyone she knew if they had one so I could put it in my shoe...hahaha.  She is so cute.

Has anyone else heard of this?  Is anyone else doing this?

I'm doing a sixpence. I didn't ever know that was part of the rhyme, either, until my mom gave me a sixpence at my engagement party last year and I was like wtf is this? haha

She had just gone to the UK and it was during the Royal Wedding hype, so she got me a special royal wedding one. It's kind of weird for to me... I'd prolly rather get a regular penny from my wedding year, but oh well.

I've heard of the penny before but I'm not doing it. I don't think I'm doing the whole "something borrowed.." thing anyway. But it's def cute of her to find you one (:

Heard of it but I don't know that I'm doing it.  I have a pair of sandals and they do not stay snugly on my feet (what sandals do?) so I'd be worried that I'd loose it and if I lost it, what's the point?

I heard of it, it was part of the trivia at my bridal shower.  I'm thinking of getting a penny and sticking it somehow in the wrap of my bouquet instead of my shoe as that will probably just cause blisters for me since they are sandals.

I'm doing it - a little differently.  First vacation we went on together, FI and I passed one of those smashed penny machines, and we each made one.  Since then, we try to make one every time we go on vacation together.  I have one from the night he proposed in Hawaii that I plan on sticking in my shoe.  I have no idea what year the penny was, but it's definitely not 2012.

I'm doing it I hadn't decided yet what year I would like though... 2012 for wedding date; my birth year; FIs birth year; year we met.... lots of options

My mom gave me something for this a couple of months ago. Its a blue satin penny holder to go in my shoe. So it covers all the bases!
