ok, bear with me... but critique needed

so i had these big dreams of making my paddle fan programs.. i went home, made one, and decided it looked like sh!t. It might have been the glue that I used, I need to buy double sided tape.. it is also because I'm wondering if the white cardstock is just too see through. also, on this particular version the flower was supposed to be blue but eended up grey... not sure how. also, i can't tie a bow to save my life so that sucks... anyway.. tell me what you think, should i put a colored piece of paper inbetween the two sides? Should I just scrap the whole idea? What do you think?

oh and btw, these are CRAPPY cell phone pics. hahah

i warned you! haha

also, i'm thinking the ribbon should be thicker. i have thicker ribbon, i just couldn't tie it well.

First off, I think that you should stop being so hard on yourself and just few it as a work in progress. I think that they are really cute and just need a little adjusting.

IMO I would use double sided tape where the paper meets the wood stick, then use foam tape around the edges where it is just paper to paper. The foam tape will be about the same thickness as the wood so it will make it look more uniform.

I agree that a thicker cardstock and well as a thicker ribbon would also look better. Just take a deep breath and step back for a minute so that you don't get too frustrated.

Are you using cover weight paper? I would think it wouldn't be see through if your paper is heavy enough?

You definitely are being way too hard on yourself! Like pp said, i think a thicker bow and thicker cardstock would make a big difference!

I agree! Sarack, you are being so hard on yourself. I would like to see with the right tape and possible thicker ribbon too. And if you still aren't in love, then you could resort to the paper in between. I think people will be thrilled with them. But I know how you feel, if you aren't lovin' it, it's hard to be okay and keep on producing:) Good luck!

    the paper is 110# cover.

foam tape huh? can i find that michaels? and double sided tape for the wood area.

with the foam tape, do you think the sides wouldn't close all the way?? i think that it wouldn't really be bad if i just didn't use regular glue.. i was too lazy to pull out a glue stick or glue dots. haha. so the regular glue really stuck to the paper/stick.

i tried thicker ribbon and it does look better..

in that case, jennyann-i have 3 rolls of that thin green if you're interested... :)

I don't really like the foam tape idea because I think it might look funny from the side... also, it's paper around a stick, I think it's sort of a given that there will be a difference in thickness so it seems strange to try to make it seem like there isn't, I would worry about that.

I would however use another color cardstock between the two that's maybe 1/4" bigger on all sides - I think it would just make it look a little more finished.  Otherwise, I think you're doing great!

I agree with pp, its not that bad, you're being too hard on yourself.

I think if you use heavier paper and/or put a colored piece (maybe tan like the wood) behind, it would help.  And, yes, definitely a thicker ribbon.  And the tape works much better than glue, not sure about foam tape or not.

I got my easy-use double-sided tape at Paper Zone.  Get the kind that has the removable paper one one side, or it's a major PITA.

The only comment I have is that I think it would look better with more colorful and yes less see through

But otherwise the spacing/design/font all look fantastic.

I agree with amadasw. With the foam tape, you're going to have that gap all the way around and I don't think it will look as good. It's a given there will be thickness where the stick is and I don't think it will look bad or be weird. I would say get cover weight cardstock in your blue to put in between, and leave a 1/4" border hanging out around the program to provide a kind of matting. The blue will get rid of the see-through, will tie in with your colors since you're already using the green ribbon, and help it look finished.

kahala- what do you think should be a different color? I was thinking it looked very plain also...

Ok, I agree about more color, NO foam tape (that would be visible from the side), YES, I will take the skinny ribbon if you don't want it, and Scotch/3M double-sided tape is my favorite.
Maybe you could use light green paper?  I am considering this.  Paper Zone has a pretty cardstock called "celery" that is light, but looks good with the medium greens you're using.
