i don't see the big deal - especially if they're looking to do something funky. It makes me a little sad that I never dyed my hair pink or blue. I couldn't get away with it now.

I've been dyeing since I was 16, but I hated my hair long before that. "Dishwater blonde" is the best description I've heard of my natural color. It's awful.

That probably colors my opinion, but I'd let Bacon dye whenever she asked.

My sister has been helping my niece dye her hair off and on since she was 10.  I judge.  I think little girls should be taught to love their looks the way they are.  Save the hair dying and eyebrow plucking and leg shaving and make-up wearing for later.

I'm with you BMom about hating my hair color. I didn't hate though until I moved to Texas and never went outside and it went from blonde to dishwater blonde. It is just so blah....

I agree with zsa - that is too younge. 15 or 16, yes. 13, no.

Yes, girls should be taught to love the way they look, but you're forgetting the peer pressure factor.   Also, changing up your looks isn't always about not being happy with the way you are.   It can be about experimenting, having fun, trying to figure out what suits you, or what suits your personality.    Hair color (and makeup) is a non-permanent way to do this.

The summer between 7th and 8th grade, I used "Sun-In" and sometimes lemon juice, on my hair, then proceeded to spend the entire summer at the pool.    All of us in my nerdy, good-girl group of friends did this, unbeknowst to our parents.   Probably the most "rebellious" thing any of us ever did!
By the time school started my hair was a weird blotchy orange color.  Mom tried to help out by dying my hair back to dark brown, not realizing that we should have picked one shade lighter then dark brown.   I ended up with black splotchy hair. : /

The moral of the story is, when you're a teenager you like to do fun and different things with your looks and it has nothing to do with not being happy with the way you are.

Um, no.  When DD can legally vote, she can dye her hair.

It's more cost factor for me, but if they want to use bday money sure.  I will say I love my natural color better than any dye/highlight I've had.

I was allowed to use that Glints stuff at 13 and such, but I wasn't allowed to use anything permanent until I was 17.  What was weird was that my hair was all sunbleached and chlorine bleached anyway from swimming, so it wasn't until I dyed it with permanent stuff at 17 that I noticed my roots were the same color I'd dyed it, and just let it grow in natural from then on.
