You are going to someone's house for the night.  The dog has been there before, but not always.  The homeowners have a cat and you know it makes a minor inconvenience to the homeowners.

I voted for the last one.  I'm inclined to think I'm just annoyed at the whole darn thing.

You need a SS option.  I would have voted for "leave the dog at home."  But that's just me.

If I had your ILs, I'd move to Alaska.

we always bring a crate when we take the dogs on trips - the exception will be this move since the crate doesn't fit in my car with the dogs and luggage. 

 i always ask the hosts - but we have only taken them to visit family who knows them.

can/do your ILs bring a crate for their dog?

i've been irritated at craigslist buyers/sellers who don't mention they have a dog.  when i am trying to load my old exercycle into your car, please mention if there will be a dog who will come leaping at my face when you open the tailgate.
