When to order BM dresses

Can anyone give me range on how long it takes to get a BM dress once you order it?

Also--who did you take shopping with you?   I originally wanted to take my two sisters and then go back with the rest in smaller groups (I have seven bridesmaids and I think that would be way too much to do at once.) I'm also planning on having different styles for each bridesmaid, so they will actually be picking a dress, not just getting sized.  However, I'm worried about hurting the other BM's feelings, I don't want anyone to feel left out or hurt that they didn't get to help pick the original line of dresses.

Thanks for your help!

It sounds like you plan on doing the same thing I'm doing with BM dresses.

It depends on the brand/designer on how long the dresses will take to arrive.  I picked Mori Lee for BM dresses, and they take 10-12 weeks.

I decided on the same color and fabric, but a different style for each BM (five total).  I took my MaidOH (OOT, was visiting at the time) with me to three different bridal salons.  We chose Mori Lee then and I figured out what styles got my okay (some were nixed for various reasons).  I then let my MaidOH pick her favorite style out of the 9 to choose from.  Then a few weeks later, I took my MatronOH and my two local BMs and they chose their dresses.  Then FSIL in NY got to choose from the remaining styles.  It was decided that the two MOHs got first choice (the fairest way to do it, imo), and there were no problems with "fighting" over styles amongst the 3 BMs.  A local BM and FSIL wanted the same dress, but I thought the local BM would look nicer in it so she got it.  FSIL picked her runner-up, and all are pleased.

You're the Bride, use your "iron fist" final decision-making if necessary!

Thanks Mgoss-we definitely have a similar approach!

10-12 weeks isn't bad at all, I am a July bride, so I have some time--but I want to at least get the dresses picked, even if the girls wait to order them until 3 months out.

Also--I LOVED your dresses and am seriously considering using the same line (I'm sorry I'm a copy cat!)

I think my plan is to go with my MOH (twin sister) and BM (little sister), while my little sister is home from college at the end of the month, then go back at some point with local BM, another trip with my FSIL's, and then leaving it up to the two OOT BM's if they want to come here (probably doable for the Portland one, not for San Diego), or just have them use their measurements to order.

It sounds like you had a different style for each BM, I am kind of hoping that I can put the 6 BM's in pairs and then have MOH in her own, but I know that might be hoping for too much!

meganhardan:  Totally go with Mori Lee!  I really liked their chiffon BM dresses.  The only downside is that their "short" BM dresses are more tea-length than knee-length, but I think it also didn't help that most of my MOH/BMs are under 5'4"  Wink

Mgoss- I loved the one you picked that has the flower on the shoulder!  I have a range of heights-- 5'3 to 5'9 so it will be interesting to see how the length works out!    Are you getting them hemmed to be shorter?

I believe most of the girls are going to get their dresses hemmed, so it will be more knee-length, I told them one inch above or below the knee would be ideal.

I ordered an Amsale dress for my best friend's April wedding back in October and I just received it a few weeks ago.

My sister ordered a Thread dress back in December and was told to expect her dress in March for my July wedding, so I'd say if you're lucky, a month, but the closer you get to summer the longer it will take from what one shop owner told me cause places get flooded with orders. I'd say 3-4 months.

My sister is in Boston and my best friend is in Kentucky, so initially I let them go and try on whatever dresses they wanted to get an idea of what they wanted with a few criteria: close to a shade of blue I liked and above the knee length. Then when I went home for Christmas, we met up at a local dress shop and finalized the dress choices, but that really only took about 15 minutes, since they had good ideas of what they wanted and looked good in in the first place. :) I think my best friend ended up with Jenny Yoo.

for a july wedding, i'd go with at least 16 weeks *just in case*...a friend of mine ordered a smaller designer...i don't remember the name of it.. ...we ordered in feb to be safe, and we didn't get them until early july because of multiple this-and-that delays. good thing her wedding was end of july.

my bm dresses were by dessy and they came in about 2 months.
