Wedding Woes

Old dogs and new tricks

My father just got his first computer.  At 60.  Two weeks ago.

He is in there just a-clickin' away at things.  It is kind of endearing to see him just DISCOVER what he's been missing.

  • Blech.  I hope not...or at least not at work.  His screen faces the door, obviously.

  • What has he been doing for the last 20 years? My dad is 64, and when we were little we'd always ask to go into work with him because he had one of those magical computer things! I can't imagine my job without a computer.

  • Or will he ask IT to print the attachments for him?  (That's what my dad did for a long time)
  • Yes, first and ONLY computer.

He also get an iPhone 4s the same week.  I thought maybe he was having a stroke.

He already asked me how to print from email.  And I can see why as the newer outlook is kinda weird.  But we figured it out.

Basically I told him not to be scared and to click away.  We shall see. He hasn't really DELVED into the internet, but he's so old school.

He hand writes ALL of his bids, and does long hand for most things.

    This is funny.

ETA:  Today it is endearing.  Tomorrow it will be annoying as fluck when he comes to you with his questions. :)

Yes. My parents and FILs always come to us with computer questions, "because we're engineers" (mechanical engineering degree =/= knowing everything about computers. Or plumbing. Or cars. The list goes on...)

My favorite is my dad's claim that I've broken his computer by double-clicking too fast.

we get this ALL THE DAMN TIME from my ILs. (My parents are a bit better, and much more computer literate. i'll get the occasional goofy question, but i have taught my mom to use facebook, google, chrome, etc., and I introduced my dad to Angry Birds.) ILs are constantly calling with computer questions - especially to DK since he's a software engineer (although there have been times that I fixed things when he couldn't). i think the best one was "why isn't my mouse working?" "is it plugged into the computer?" "no" "that's why".
