NER - Cleaning poll

Re: NER - Cleaning poll

  • I said never, but I will 'spot' clean between moppings on my hands and knees.  It gets bad by the coffee pot with drip-drops of coffee on the floor.  And also, now that DefConn is almost exclusively feeding himself, we end up with a lot of smashed veggies under the table.
  • There are times you might have that mark that you have to get down and dirty to remove.:)

There are times when it's faster to clean the floor with a soapy rag, plus it gets the heart pumping.

  • We mostly use a old fashioned mop, but about every 2-3 months I rag mop the kitchen/bathroom just b/c there's so many spots for yucky things to hide.

I never do this to the wood floors.  I did it once way back when and it's just too big of a job when 95% of your square footage is hardwood.  I will take a sponge to the trim during spring cleaning.

I said sometimes.  I have a wet mop and a steam mop, so that's what I use weekly (or more often as needed), but every once in a while I get a wild hair and think the mops don't get every corner/baseboard very well so I get down there and do it.

I just did it today and I got curious about how often people do it.

ETA:  The above statements are for my kitchen.  I mostly just steam mop in the bathroom, but I do have to get down around the back of the toilet myself.
  • I said never, but that's a lie, last weekend I took a rag and used it to scrub the corners behind the toilet.  I do it when they have a pile o' dust that the mops miss.
  • when we mop, we get down and actually hand wipe the residue off the floors. i never feel the floor is clean until then. i also said *we* because H and I do it the same way.
  • I hands and knees the bathroom and kitchen because they're too small for a mop. Our wood floors get swept and swiffered every other day though you wouldn't know it to look at them.
  • Well the housekeeper does the floors however she wants. In between her visits, I just use the Swiffer Wet Jet. I do spot clean after dog and kid messes.
  • I have a mop - one of those Rubbermaid Swiffer-esque deals with the washable pad. The bathrooms are so small (water closets, really, which I love) that I just use paper towels, Simple Green, and my feet.

Although looking at my house lately, after all the excitement of ArtSong and Halloween and all the other sht I've been running around to, I should just have said I don't clean my floors.

And there's a Groupon for half off a Roomba. I REALLY want it, now that we ripped up the living/dining/den carpets.

  • I loved our Roomba, but it only lasted about 2 years. :(

And I loved our steam mop, but it, too, died after just under 2 years. Clogged up with god knows what - I always used filtered water on it. Then my parents gave us theirs, and it, too, got clogged quickly. Ugh.

Mostly, I toe-mop the kitchen (wet rag on the floor, wipe up sticky/dirty spots with your toe), but once every few months I will get down there on my hands and knees. I don't think I've ever hands-and-kneed the bathrooms, except the corners behind the toilets.

I mostly toe-mop or otherwise spot clean the hardwoods, too. I have done those on my hands and knees, and it was awesome, but it was still dirty again in about an hour. I've pretty much given up on actually having clean floors.

  • I will only clean the floor if I spill something on it...and even then I only clean up the spot where I spilled.

My husband does all the deep cleaning (and that's the way I like it!).
