Wedding Woes

s/o the bible

Do y'all know what book he wants to me to read?

The book of Ruth. Yes, the woman who forsake her own family to stay with her MIL.

If that isn't sending a message, I don't know what it.

This story is brought to you by My Crazy Life.

no.  you might be thinking of sarah who was thought to be barren, but bore a son when she was like 80.

No, she wasn't barren.  She and Boaz had a son, Obed, who was the grandfather to King David.

Nah, Ruth had kids w/ Boaz (husband #2)

I actually recently re-read ruth and didn't hate it--for t'he times' it s a somewhat empowering story.  But only if you see it as her choosing a lifestyle/culture/religion/husband not as a 'following your MIL across the globe' story.

What exactly does he think you'll get out of that?  because...I'm not seeing it.

GB, I don't know. And Ruth's MIL picked Boaz for her, right?

    More or less.
I mean, Ruth came home and said "oh, this dude was nice to me and made sure to give us food" and MIL walked her through the "hey, this is how you hook this dude" rituals (including, 'sneak to where he sleeps and climb into bed with him and have him sneak you out in the morning').

(the implications are that Boaz was a stand-up-guy.  he did make sure to feed and protect her, made sure none of his men sexually harassed her (when she was a gleaner in the fields, not a wife, obviously) and married her (knowing that it was a 'loss' of $ and of inheritance--her sons would not be considered 'his' they'd be considered to belong to the dead husband #1.  But no one ever comes out and says he's a nice guy)

I didnt' find any really good take home-messages in it that applied to my life this time through.  Especially since for all we know, Ruth left home and followed MIL because her own family sucked and wouldn't want her back as damaged/widowed goods, ya know?
