More DVR woes

So they called me today and said they had a card they could bring to me. YAY!

Guy just came.  They don't even carry the cards that fit my Tivo.  Booo!  They are going to research it and see if they can get one for me, but that will take at least two weeks.  But the guy told me I should probably just return my Tivo.  Double Booo Boooo!!!

Can  you just get a DVR box from your cable company and return the tivo?

Yes. just call your cable co and tell them you want a DVR. It's $5 a month vs. tivo's 12.99 or whatever.

Except that I already prepaid for a year of Tivo service and even the cable people told me not to get one of their DVRs because they suck.  Oh, and the picture on our TV now also sucks.  It was so grainy during Lost that I was feeling the urge to fiddle with some rabbit ears.  Now I'm starting to realize why these guys are cheaper than satellite.

If the TiVo isn't set up properly your HD won't come through properly. I know this because back when HD and TiV were newfangled and only a few people had it, I had friends who used to brag about their awesome TV with it's awesome HD picture. H (then bf) and I went to their house, and H pointed out that the picture on their TV was not HD. Turns out they'd wired it wrong and were paying $10 a month for nothing.

Duckis and Loveshine, you should be ashamed.  TiVo is not your regular DVR.  Far superior in just about every way.

I wouldn't return my TiVo just yet.  I'm not sure what this "card" crap is, but I'd at least call TiVo support and see if there's something specific you should ask for to get everything working.

TiVo IS far superior to DVR.

We have a TiVo in our bedroom, and a DVR in our living room because the tv in the living room is HD and our TiVo box is about 7 years old.

But in her case, for a quick fix, I'd scrap the TiVo idea until she can get things straightened out. Life is tough without pre-recorded television.
